We’ve just had confirmation that GAME Australia has gone into administration.
Earlier this morning staff members informed Kotaku Australia that GAME wouldn’t be receiving copies of Diablo III due to payment issues with its shipping companies, and many reported issues with GAME’s website.
However, final confirmation came this morning when all GAME stores were sent an email stating GAME had gone into administration. GAME’s Marketing Manager also confirmed this to Kotaku Australia, but declined to give further details.
The UK arm of GAME went into administration in March this year closing 609 of its stores. Back then GAME Managing Director Paul Yardley stated he was looking for a buyer for the Australian division, but could not rule out the possibility of redundancies and store closures.
At the moment we’re not aware of the impact this news will have on stores locally. We will update this story as and when more information comes to light.
Lifehacker has some information on whether or not it’s safe to buy from GAME in its current state.
There are people posting on the Diablo 3 forums saying they've got calls from their GAME store saying they won't be getting their preorders, OR a refund.
TGW Pty Ltd (trading as GAME) is a retailer of video games, games consoles and PC software &
accessories which on appointment operated 92 stores across Australia.
On 14 May 2012, the Directors of TGW Pty Ltd appointed Kate Warwick and Greg Hall of
PricewaterhouseCoopers as Voluntary Administrators.
What if I have pre-ordered a game?
We are still working to clarify the status of pre-orders. At this stage we are intending on honouring
certain pre-orders placed on the Diablo III and Max Payne new releases. We will provide clarity on
these and other new releases in due course.
We are not able to refund customer deposits and customers who have paid a deposit for a pre-ordered
item at this stage should continue to monitor the website for further updates.
I got a phone call today saying i will not get my game now!!!!!
I had mine at my husbands pre-ordered since October last year. I rang game, not having heard that they went into admin, to see when I could pick up my copy only to find that they
1) will not be fulfilling D3 CE orders
2) will not be honoring the credit of the money I had already paid towards it!!!!
Blizzard, will you be helping us poor Aussies who faithfully pre ordered and have been screwed over by this unfortunate circumstance? I just want a copy of the CE edition :(

I to Pre-ordered a Collectors Edition from them and got this phone call just now, 18 hours prior to the servers going live, I jut went and bought a Digital copy and downloaded it.
It is extremely ridiculous that I now cannot get collectors edition AND/OR have to pay another $80 AUS to buy the game a second time.
How could they have not known prior to 14th May that they are in trouble and will not be getting the game in when the game would have to be in stores already.
I talked to the AREA MANAGER on the 13th May who told me that it is available for pickup on the 15th when the store opens 9 am.
What pisses me off the most is that I just lost getting Collectors Edition after Pre-ordering it quite possibly 6 months ago to something that is nothing to do with me.
They would have been taking pre orders for weeks/months, knowing they could not fill them.
I'd probably question the legality of accepting money from patrons without handing back the product they were promised, and not handing back any refunds, while knowing that this would happen in the first place.
I never understood why people even shopped in Game, Gamestop etc. They usually don't even carry all that many different games (they have 50 shelve spaces for MW3 etc.) and the games are very expensive.
Just read their FAQ:
What if I have Gift Cards, Gift Vouchers or in-store Credits?
We are prepared to honour existing gift cards, gift vouchers and credit notes for most of the products in our stores or online on the basis that these can only be used for 25% of the total purchase price.
For example if you have a $15 gift card, you are required to spend at least $60 in store or online, in order to redeem the gift card, with the balance of $45 to be paid in cash.
Gift cards, gift vouchers and credit notes cannot be used in conjunction with other customer benefits such as pre-payments, loyalty programme/GAMEON points etc.
So, if you've already given them money for a gift card, you have to give them more money just to use it. Complete bullshit
I've never seen a GAME shop, just gametraders, EBgames and JB HI-FI (though they don't sell just games they have a major section of games where I live).
Was there any game shops around Queensland?

Welcome to why you don't buy credit with companies.

They don't have many (if any in QLD from what I've seen), but they had them every where in NSW and VIC.
This is such an outrage though that people are losing their money to this.
This just in, GAME doesn't want to make money any more. QUOTE: "We just don't see the reason to make money, there's no reason to have it."
More at 10.
A friend of mine works for game, they might lose their job because of this

Yeah just checked and it misses where I live by miles,
I feel sorry for all the people who pre-ordered this and now found out they won't be getting their game, would suck massive fucking cock to find that out

Two GAME stores in Townsville QLD. Its a bit sad really, I work at JB in a shopping centre with a GAME store, the guys there are really nice.
How is this even legal? How can they accept money for a product then turn around and give neither back?
This is probably going to hurt them a lot, I can imagine they are going to lose quite a few customers by breaking trust like this.

You realise that a business will go into voluntary administration if things are looking dire? They will probably be out of business in the next few months.
And seeing as how they're a company, you're going to have to sue them to get your money back - but they won't have the money to pay you.
In QLD there used to be a GAME store in the Myer Centre (Brisbane CBD) but it got replaced by EB Games a few months back - there used to be a GAME store up in Cairns too, not sure if it's still there.

More information here.
Also i just saw a photo of a friend hugging his copy of diablo 3 in the gamestore just a second ago. (he works at game)

There's none in Ipswich, one in Toowoomba and a few in Brisbane but there isn't a lot of them, probably because EBgames does a far better job than GAME

Yeah I guess it makes sense, it just seems so unfair on the customer. A similar thing happened to my parents, when one of the big UK banks went down the crapper a year or two ago my parents had $40,000 in an account with them that was lost, but luckily the government had a scheme to claim it back.
Wow, no GAME stores where i live, but there are a few Gamestops, all they every seem to sell is Call of Duty games, gimmicky crap and whatever else they can get for cheap (like those obscure as fuck Wii games that look like a first year uni projects (the bad kind)).
I'll probably try to get in early tomorrow and buy a copy at Gametraders, their selling it for $80 which is cheaper them most PS3 games in Aus.
My mouse is ready.

That is fucking messed up and can't be legal.
fuck GAME i get all my games from Jbhifi and normally $20 cheaper then them.
Diablo 3 will be $59 at Dick Smith tomorrow, just so you know.
GAME was too over-priced anyway, good riddance
There was something similar in the Netherlands a year or so ago. There was this hardware store called It's, they'd make sure to lure as many costumers in to buy a tv. My old teacher did this too. They didn't deliver the tv because they had to close. Too many people were screwed over that day.
My family knew an employee there really well. He was tricked by the managers to sell as many tv's as he could. He got the blame, he was the best sales employee of any store in the Netherlands. Needless to say, he got fucked over really, really bad. His managers still haven't got a lawsuit on them.
So glad I preordered online.
I have 3 Game stores in my general area. Every time I have gone to them, they are usually deserted.
Just goes to show how bad Game is doing right now.
One was open at Chadstone in Melbourne for about 2 weeks, seriously, they had a grand opening and 2 weeks later the store was being renovated into a home wares store.
well i guess ill never preorder anything ever again
[editline]14th May 2012[/editline]

Gonna have to pass on Diablo 3.
