Good thing I have Spotify Free, not Spotify Open.
inb4 limits music for people with spotify free
Har har, I have Spotify free too. They won't do it to free users because we have been in since beta.

Same here. Sure hope that doesn't happen.
Thank god I have Spotify free. Spotify is literally the best thing that has ever happened to music for me. Easy to use, no loading times and you find alot of good songs you've never heard before. I couldn't go a day without Spotify.
I bet they're going the last.fm way, with subscriptions and international unavailability of said subscriptions and shit.
This is exactly why the fuck people pirate music; it's not available in the form people want it.
It's a buyer's market, either sell the product people want or they'll pirate it.

...
They are selling it for free. How the fuck is that not a good deal?
This is a seriously retarded argument towards a free service. Especially labelling free listeners as buyers.
Spotify has to pay the artist 1 pence for each listen to their songs. Everyone that doesn't pay only suck money out of Spotify, more money than what is brought in by ads. Yet they keep the service up completely free with the option to pay.

Let's also not forget that people pirate music because buying tracks/albums is far over-priced.
Spotify also fixes that.

You can also get spotify free, by being invited by a premium user.

Not to mention the same 1-5 songs going over and over again on several albums.
perhaps because of my english I didn't quite understand, but is that right that I, who uses spotify more then 10 hours per month will be limited to that time? That would suck majorly. And I aslo can't upgrade to premium because then they would close my account, since I'm not from one of the states it's allowed in...

True.
If I had one complaint about Spotify, it's that it uses p2p traffic to transfer the music from one user to another. Which causes upstream bandwith usage which seriously lags if you're trying to play an online game as well.
Luckily Bitdefender firewall can be set to block spotify (and hence enable offline mode).

If you PM me your email address. I can send you an invite to spotify free, it's the same as spotify open, but without the monthly limit.

Never heard of anyone having that problem before.
You must have some seriously crap internet.

just checked and it does say "You are currently using Spotify Free". but thanks for the offer!

It's extremely common to have that in the UK.
Since upload speeds are so shitty in the UK (Most you're looking at is maybe 70KB/s) spotify tends to use all of that upload bandwidth and then choke downstream so games are horrible to play and you lag like a motherfucker.
Netlimiter fixes it though.
Premium all the way. Spotify suits my darn good. Its mobile applications and syncing is so great, and the music selection is huge (yes, there is much that is missing.) and spotify has helped me find so many songs and artists because of the related artist tab and all those things.
If nothing changes drastically i will continue to pay.

Best speeds I get:

Surprisingly I get much faster speeds to Romania, than my own country...
This is in my own country:

Let's not forget the built in internet radio.

I run spotify pretty much 24/7 and I have 0.4 megabits upstream.. I can still play games with a 5ms ping. What are you smoking?
I thought Spotify Open is equivalent to Spotify Free.
Edit:
Aha, just read it on wiki, cool!
Everyone in the world pretty much has spotify free thing. It's not really worth paying for unless you use it on your phone.
With its current model Spotify loses tens of millions of dollars each year, sadly they will have to do much more than this if they want to stick around
Understandable, they're losing money. It's almost impossible to keep people happy with a free product while still maintaining a profit.
[editline]14th April 2011[/editline]
I still use Spotify Free, and only then it's if it's something new.

if 5€ a month is a reason to pirate then you must be incredibly poor
It does effect people with free accounts as well as open accounts.
"As of May 1st, any user who signed up to the free service on or before November 1st 2010 will be able to play each track for free up to a total of 5 times. Users who signed up after the beginning of November will see these changes applied 6 months after the time they set up their Spotify account."
and

I don't see how this is a big shock to anyone.
Remember Stage6? That died because they chose to keep it free till they went bankrupt
Since Spotify hasn't been available here anyway and still isn't, I use http://listen.grooveshark.com/

those Spotify Free accounts must be pretty valuble then... (I wonder what if there's a person who made many ALT accounts back in the beta and is selling them now, to people who don't want to settle for an Spotify Open account)
Wow, fucking rude. I've been a member since June of 2009 (or before), and this is how they treat me. Fuck it, I might as well pay for it because it's not expensive anyway.
spotify free account going, $100!
As jsm said, spotify free accounts will be affected too.

Meh, it was never available in my country anyways. I always use grooveshark whenever i want to listen to music online.
