Scenario: You are required to design and engine for a sporty hatchback car using a 1.3L (1300cc) inline 4 engine, producing over 80HP whilst still producing good fuel economy.
There are regulations to this however, they are:
1300cc (1299cc allowed) Inline 4 layout
2011 Technology Limit
Must produce a minimum of 80HP, every HP over 80 is an extra point
Any valve configuration, VVL and VVT allowed
Performance intake only
Exhaust must have a standard 3-way catalytic converter and no better than a standard tubular header
Regular Unleaded 91 fuel
Fuel Injection MPFI
No restriction on pistons
No titanium conrods
No billet cranks
Must obtain as high of a horsepower figure as possible, whilst staying under 1.4lb/hph for economy score. Economy score is calculated by this equation

Final score will be calculated by
DEADLINE: 21st MAY 2012
Use the Automation software to produce the engine http://automationgame.com/ and after testing, screenshot the results and post them here.
Tutorials are provided in-game if you need help
:D I've got my basic engine done. Now I'm tweaking fuel and compression until I can get the best FE/HP ratio.
I hope some people get in on this, I'm ready to see who is the best at pretending they can build engines.
Sounds like fun, downloading now.
man on these moments i hate having a mac :/ I'll see if my old laptop still works and then i'll give it a try
miniwagon here i come
looks confusing but i'll give it a go
what if we create a 1198cc engine with insane power and mpg (i doubt it) would that count
aww man you need a key to download it
You can download the demo, right below the vid you can download the engine designer demo.
Oh, god i'm dumb, well downloading now
Personally I am fine with anything under 1300cc, just as long as you don't go over. Turke would probably be okay with it too. But fuel efficiency and horsepower peaks would probably be the best at 1299-1300cc.
Maybe I'm just completely missing it but what do you mean by 1.4lb/hph?
The game's example would be like 300g/kWh.
You need to go into the settings and change the units to MPG US on fuel and Horsepower on output.
It's default to the metric system. Which we're still using for engine size.
Settings to use

I'm pretty sure I got the math right but I'm at 0.6lb/hph and 120hp and I'm getting -18.5 points.
Heheh.
no boxer?
fuck this game
I'm pretty sure I got the math right but I'm at 0.6lb/hph and 120hp and I'm getting -18.5 points.
Heheh.
1.5 - 0.6 lb/hph = 0.9 * 100 = 90 Economy Score
90 + 120 hp - 80 = 130 Final Score
Hope this clears up some of the math
i opted for a 3.0l inline 4 because engines are boring
1.5 - 0.6 lb/hph = 0.9 * 100 = 90 Economy Score
90 + 120 hp - 80 = 130 Final Score
Hope this clears up some of the math
Oh, you're not using bedmas for the economy score? I figured it'd be like
1.5 - 0.6 * 100 = 1.5 - 60 = -58.5
So it's more like [1.5 - (0.6lb/hph)] * 100 = economy score.
Sorry to be so fussy, I was just punching it into the calculator and it spat it out as -58.5
Now... just to slowly improve this thing and become the ultimate engine master
Thank god lifespan isn't a component of this competitition :P
You've got a pretty good score, actually. I'm actually worried a little, the only two scores I've seen so far are really close to mine and I'm really close to pinning down my setup!
Good work so far, everyone.

I hear you bro, I hear you.
itb's or direct injection allowed?

Is 130 actually good? Because I'm really shit at this and I'll be honest, I've bumped that score up a fair bit :)
[sp]I'm up to 171 points. :D[/sp]
Lame, I was pushing <130bhp and 117 torque in my real life car..
i don't think i did everything properly anyway but I'm gonna work this out and see what I get (unless someone works it out first)

i scored 119? someone help me out

You scored 113 if my math is correct. And since we're sharing

simplify maths please... not sure I'm doing it right, I'm getting 152hp and 0.9lb/(hph)
not that I actually know what that last one means because fuck non metrics.

Okay, so to get economy score, you take 1.5 and subtract your economy.
So 1.5 - 0.9 = 0.6 right? You then multiply by 100. So your economy score is 60.
Then you add your horsepower (152). So that equals 212. You then subtract 80, which is the minimum
HP required for our engines, so that if you don't exceed the minimum, no points for you.
212 - 80 = 132. So you have 132 for your score.
it's just a quic... fuck I forgot to save it, good job psygo, oh well I'll work on it tomorrow.
[editline]14th May 2012[/editline]
also thanks for helping me with that, I got it all right except the taking away 80 part... I was wondering I was getting above 200 on a quick 10 min mashup :V
Matt: 113 points
Tukimoshi: Jesus fuck, that's one hell of an engine. Good score.
Psygo: 1.5 - your lb/hph, then multiply by 100. Add your horsepower to that and subtract 80. Final score. You're doing 132 points so far.
I want to show mine off but I think I'll wait. Still making tweaks to get the best score!
That screenshot is pre-tweak though. I'm gonna keep the rest a surprise, I just managed to bump it up a bit more now and I think I'll squeeze out every little juice.
It's hilarious when your economy goes up by 0.1lb and you just start reducing numbers by 1 point each test.
I got mine working very well, except it ran on higher octane and couldnt do it with the specified, so I'm disqualified.

I'm fairly certain I have squeezed every bit of power and economy I can out of mine, so it'll be interesting to see what you've got. I can't wait until the deadline gets closer so I can reveal mine. I don't want to give away all my secrets yet!
