[RELEASE]The newfound civility didn’t last long. Political rhetoric in Congress doesn’t get much nastier than the words of one House Democrat during the debate on repealing the health care law.
In an extraordinary outburst on the House floor, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) invoked the Holocaust to attack Republicans on health care and compared rhetoric on the issue to the work of infamous Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels.
“They say it's a government takeover of health care, a big lie just like Goebbels," Cohen said. "You say it enough, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, and eventually, people believe it. Like blood libel. That's the same kind of thing. And Congressman Cohen didn’t stop there.
“The Germans said enough about the Jews and people believed it--believed it and you have the Holocaust. We heard on this floor, government takeover of health care. Politifact said the biggest lie of 2010 was a government takeover of health care because there is no government takeover," Cohen said.
Cohen made his comments late last night, but they have attracted no attention because his speech was made to a virtually empty House chamber with no reporters around to watch.[/RELEASE]
Well, that was fucking stupid of him.
the republicans aren't nazi's, just ignorant and proud of it.
No party goes without its idiots.
I say we repeal the House of Representatives. :downs:

The Nazi comparison is inappropriate, but that is 100% how the Republican Party gets people to buy it's bullshit. They make up complete lies, then have Fox repeat them 24/7 until stupid people eventually start to believe it's true.

he's a democrat
Hasn't everyone in Washington been calling each other Nazis lately? I hardly see how this warrants a headline.
I don't think the insults can go any Fuhrer than that i mean, comparing Americans to Nazis is not reich
he's a democrat
That wasn't who I was talking about. I know he is. I said that was stupid. Then I said republicans are ignorant and proud of it, rather than being like the nazis. Thought that was clear.
He called someone a Nazi? Auschwitz his head!
I guess the republicans did nazi that coming.

I'm unoriginal.
To be fair they are fascists
I guess this senator just didn't put enough thought into his final solution.

Can we really stay on topic?, this is going out of Mein Kampfort zone
I misread the title as "Steve Colbert." I thought he just seriously broke character.
Republicans are Nazis and Democrats are commies. And another day goes by in the world of political exaggerations.
That's a dumb thing to say. Fox News will jump all over this.
Rich Iott is basically a Nazi and technically a Republican lol
They are doing the same thing the nazi's did. Theres nothing really wrong with the health care bill, it's just a 'symbolic' thing for them.
They've tricked the poor into being against a system that will save many of their lives. It's evil.

I agree that there's nothing wrong with the healthcare bill but it's not like they're "out to get" the poor.

They definitely aren't on their side though
The Republicans aren't Nazis - The Nazis actually fixed the German economy.
People really need to stop comparing everything to Nazi Germany.

We'd like to present another sweeping generalization courtesy of HumanAbyss, sponsored by Glaber.
This guy shares the same last name as I do.
I lol'd because it's a Jewish last name.

I think denying that historically, your policies haven't succeeded and haven't wrought the changes you said they would, is being ignorant and proud of it.

you do know what the republican core beliefs are, right?
calling them ignorant isn't a "sweeping generalization" because if they're affiliated with the party then obviously they share most of the main beliefs of the party

they sure as hell love exploiting them and never helping them
once again you're being an apologist
And Republicans don't often compare Democrats to communists?
And Republicans don't often compare Democrats to communists?
