It's most likely bullshit. Though US terror attempts have been shit at making bombs the past few years so I wouldn't be too shocked if they did find some duds in there.

When talking to the person you're supposed to take down information like "male, female, adult, juvenile", pitch of voice, slow speech, fast speech, accents, distortion, language and grammar, background noise, etc.

Pretty sure when someone says they're putting bombs all over a college campus you regard it as a credible threat no matter what their accent is
