U.S. appeals courts struck down gay marriage bans in Utah and Indiana on Wednesday, saying they violated constitutional rights to equal protection in the latest in a series of court rulings across the nation to allow gay couples to wed.

Conservative and heavily Mormon, Utah became the 18th U.S. state where marriage rights were extended to same-sex couples when a federal district judge ruled in December 2013 that a state ban on gay matrimony was unconstitutional. That decision was put on hold by the appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, but not before more than 1,300 gay and lesbian couples had tied the knot. Separately, a U.S. federal judge struck down Indiana's ban on same-sex marriage as unconstitutional on Wednesday and ordered officials to start issuing marriage licenses.
Source: www.reuters.com Thought Indiana would be one of the last states ever for this to happen.
Now all Indiana needs is alcohol sales on Sunday and we will finally be caught up with the rest of the country.
and to think our commission just voted against gender-neutral marriage I'm pretty embarrassed
I'm loving the fact that the appeals court denied Utah the right to continue living in the middle of the 20th century. If we can accomplish a cultural shift in Utah towards greater tolerance of gay people, the Mormon Church could experience minor (but major) reforms globally.

I'm actually proud of Indiana for once. What a strange feeling.
I'm actually proud of Indiana for once. What a strange feeling.
It won't last. In my experience, there are at least 5 bigoted rednecks in this state for every sane and reasonable person. Our single-party state government will fix that proud feeling for you soon enough. If anything, be proud of our court system for telling our bigoted asshole representatives that they can't legally deny rights to gay people, no matter how icky the idea of buttsex makes them feel.
Damn. thread ninjad
