Microsoft has now released an announcement on Major Nelson's blog about Xbox Live TV. According to the Major Nelson blog, 40 providers are coming to Xbox Live TV. These include Comcast, Verizon FIOS, Bravo, HBO GO, and Syfy in the United States. In the UK, additional providers include BBC TV and Radio. Rogers on Demand in Canada, Telefónica in Spain, Televisa in Mexico, ZDF (Germany), and MediaSet (Italy) will be rolling out as well. 20 countries will be a part of the rollout this holiday season. Of course, there are some existing providers that have already rolled out. AT&T, BSkyB, Canal+ (France), ESPN (US), Foxtel (Australia), and Hulu Plus are some of the services already provided. According to the TechNet blog, Xbox Live TV will allow you to use the Xbox 360 as a set-top box. In other words, the Xbox 360 will become a true entertainment and media consumption device. Microsoft is certainly stepping up the game for its own console. Other console makers might follow, but for now, it looks like Microsoft has the edge, even if they are not exactly letting you cut the cable bill with the new service. It appears that this fits in with their "three screens" vision. Stay tuned and we will keep you informed as to when more information comes out. It seems nice, however they'd need to continue getting more providers.
Its just not a gaming console anymore......
Not like we don't have actual TV or anything.
Was that what the thing you plug your Xbox into was?
That would actually be awesome. $60 for LIVE doesn't seem like such a bad deal if you eventually get to cut out your satellite/cable bill and save some bank.
Its just not a gaming console anymore......
that's supposed to be the point
In my opinion, they're only going downhill with Kinect and shit. They need to be more like they were in 2006-2007. The golden years of the 00s for gaming. [editline]5th October 2011[/editline] Hell if I know.
You mean back when you had to pay for LIVE and DIDN'T get TV channels? This is actually a really useful thing they're adding this time if it works out well.
Seem's sort of cool. Only thing I use my Xbox 360 nowadays is to play skate games.
Isn't Live supposed to be getting Youtube support at some point? Frankly, I'd like that, or better yet a full fucking browser, before getting TV.
Its just not a gaming console anymore......
I think its interesting how Microsoft is now using the X360 as a broad platform now. I doubt XLTV will go far, but it's still interesting to see how they're using an existing platform like this.
Look at all these cool features!* (*: Only available in U.S.)
Wow, with how fast Microsoft is improving the Xbox within the next half decade it might be worth half a PS3!
Ahh, yes, I found it. Youtube is hidden near the bottom of that list with "Available in 22 Markets" tacked on to the end.
Wow, with how fast Microsoft is improving the Xbox within the next half decade it might be worth half a PS3!
Oh man here it comes
In the UK, additional providers include BBC TV and Radio
Woop, iPlayer on 360 finally!
Oh man here it comes
Haha, that's right bud, try calling attention to it. I'm not attempting start any arguments I'm just well aware of the features of the PS3 compared too what the Xbox will have even after Microsoft upgrades it. I just fucking hate Xbox 360s, I have a nasty history with them.

Way to go.
Nobody is forcing you to play, or buy, a kinect, its silly and dumb, I agree, but its not going down hill because they want to make money off fat old house wives that want to work out.
It's a bit late for this really, PS3 has had iPlayer, 4od etc for ages. As for using it like a freeview box, every TV comes with it built in nowdays anyway.
Wow, with how fast Microsoft is improving the Xbox within the next half decade it might be worth half a PS3!
Are you SERIOUSLY trying to start a fucking console.v.console flame war? Go away, nobody cares if you think X ix better than Y
Couldn't you just turn the xbox off and watch the TV that it's plugged into? Or is this supposed to be like cable TV?

PS3 has some useful features but nothing quite as useful as that.
I don't even watch TV anymore :v: Regardless I use my PC as my home entertainment center, my 360 collects dust.

I only use my xbox for Rock Band.
"Xbox Live Gold and other subscriptions required" I knew it was too good to be true, but I could have hoped.
Its just not a gaming console anymore......
They stated this at the last E3, thats their objective.
I don't even watch TV anymore these days, so I'm completely neutral on this.
It's a bit late for this really, PS3 has had iPlayer, 4od etc for ages. As for using it like a freeview box, every TV comes with it built in nowdays anyway.
While the PS3 is jolly good for having iPlayer and 4od, rather than saying "Yeah but PS3 has had this for ages!" people should really just be saying "Well at least it's coming to the 360 now". And Freeview isn't very good, the signal is absolutely shite for every channel apart from a select few.
Isn't that kind of backwards? A lot of (young) people don't watch TV anymore since the infusion of cheap reality TV directly led to the warmed up masses jumping at cat videos and EPIC FAILS on YouTube. A hilarious twist for the suits that tried to make quick money at low cost. Plus I imagine the majority of gamers interested in related topics either already has a spreadsheet and newsnode collection or just wants to play for themselves. Major reason why Germany's GIGA - a lighthearted TV channel about games in general - ran out of funding and eventually degenerated back into its website form.
I was expecting a tv show:(
