So if you had "Song used in trailer is "Welcome to the Jungle", make sure to mark your bingo cards.

Oh my god these characters are so stereotypical I'm surprised the gamer dude doesn't have dork glasses.
Okay, y'know what, I was skeptical of this at first. And I still am.
But knowing Karen Gillan, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and motherfucking Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is in this? I might have to just... try to forget how distant it is from the source material and hope it works on its own. Because that is one hell of a cast, and it could be the saving grace of the entire film. If the whole thing is a pile of shit, at least it had these people in it.
But probably not though.
Not a very well edited trailer plus the obvious song choice didn't help either, BUT i have to commend the fact there going in a different direction with it and playing with the stereotypes of the characters a bit by putting them in roles there not used to which i find to be pretty funny, and the big main postive is that it doesn't look like a rehash and more so a sequel to the original and from what i can gather it looks like we'll be exploring the world inside the game more.
Looks it could be a fun adventure film with a great cast behind but i'm gonna need to see more footage, overall i'm pretty shocked that this looks good for a sony picture.
I am... actually quite interested. Aside from changing the game from a board game to a video game (I mean, that just makes the mysticism thing work better, to me); it does look like it could be kind of a fun movie.
[sp]calling it now, the shadowy figure and the main antagonist will be Van Pelt, but maybe that goes without saying.[/sp]

I have theory of why it's a video game now.
[sp]Sense the board game has magical properties and the stuff in the game can leak into the real world, i wonder if it transformed itself into a video game/console to lure unexpected players into playing it again. If that would be the case, that's pretty fucking dope if they head in that direction[/sp]
To back this one up a bit more, in the teaser the board game is shown off in the beginning of the trailer.

I don't know why, but i find it pretty cool that were going inside the game for this one.
I think this might be funny.
seems different enough that it could have been called anything else... so pretty much like every other 20 years too late sequel ever made

That is one of my criticisms about this whole deal, it's so vastly different from the original Jumanji that the only real similarity between the two is that it's kids sucked into a game, which isn't exactly a unique idea to begin with.

That would make sense, I suppose.
But it's also Sony, so I'm inclined to believe it was more about appealing to demographics than improving the narrative; and that it's only called Jumanji for the sake of using a familiar brand.
Board games are arguably less popular then Video Games these days, it only makes sense.

Yeah it is sony and that's big warning sign if anything, but at the same it also looks like pretty fun adventure film that has "some" creativity to it and is trying to do something different from the original which is a big plus. We'll see what happens when it comes out but hey at least it dosen't look like the emoji movie :v:

Do you count T2 Trainspotting as one of those?
Board games are arguably less popular then Video Games these days, it only makes sense.
It makes sense for marketing. At the same time, cleaning out an old basement and finding some old board game they reluctantly play to pass the time; makes sense with the narrative and being a sequel. Personal preference, though.
Dwayne Johnson's character is literally Den from 1981 Heavy Metal film.
The way Robin Williams' character described the world in Jumanji made it seem like an incredibly terrifying place to try and survive in.
What we got was the song "Welcome to the Jungle", The Rock, and unfunny jokes.

While it's cool that the premise is that it's inside the game this time, this does not look at all like how I imagined "Jumanji" itself. I always imagined it as a Heart of Darkness-esque oppressive and maddening jungle, not Hawaii.
The fact that they used that song is so detached lmao
its taking the jungle part way too literally
like remember how in suicide squad all the characters 'gimmicks' lined up with the song they used? It's just lazy as fuck and boring
Instead of using something FUn and CREATIVE they pick the most blatantly obvious song. they just read the title of the song and because it matches they use that.

At least they didn't use It Ain't Me
When I was little, I was so in love with Jumanji that I used to spend hours recreating the board game on pieces of cardboard. I had it unfold and it said Jumanji in big letters on the front. I even tryed to make it a playable game with my friends. I was sooo into this magical board game...
I honestly cannot express how disappointed I am with the handling of this "sequel/reboot". I'm not even sure if it's fully hit me yet. I hate everything about this trailer and movie so far.
Yo this is fucking terrible

Why is Karen Gillan in this movie?
So i did some digging on more plot details for the film and stumbled upon this.
Four high school kids discover an old video game console and are drawn into the game's jungle setting, literally becoming the adult avatars they chose. What they discover is that you don't just play Jumanji - you must survive it. To beat the game and return to the real world, they'll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, discover what Alan Parrish left 20 years ago, and change the way they think about themselves - or they'll be stuck in the game forever.
So from what i can gather as much, alan's character left quite the footmark in jumanji and im gonna guess his legend lives on in the game world? Wonder what he left behind that they need to find.
The only Jumanji sequel we need

It looks like a bunch of stereotypical *gamer* jokes.

Holy shit this actually makes me want to watch the movie again even though I had nightmares as a kid and haven't watched it since.

the monkeys in the kitchen fucking terrified me
Why is Karen Gillan in this movie?
She's hot. That's the only reason.

The boy turning in to a monkey is what got me...
