Finally!
So, is there any idea of pricing?
I'm not going to buy the first available unit of this. Give it some years to develop as a commercial product, but I am of course glad to see this being released.
This is incredibly exciting! I'm really interested in seeing the initial impact the Rift has on the casual consumer.
Anyone know how much it'll cost? I can't find jack shit on their site.
I'm interested in the Oculus Rift but isnt there a Vive announcement happening soon?
Occulus doesnt have those handcontrollers that some of the other VR goggles have right?
Occulus doesnt have those handcontrollers that some of the other VR goggles have right?
They do, but they will be released in the last half of the year. The HTC Vive will release with bundled tracked controllers before then, unless it is delayed.
so conflicted as to which one to buy also seriously thinking of putting stocks in this whole VR thing
So EVE: Valkyrie isn't bundled but a pre-order bonus?
Anyone know how much it'll cost? I can't find jack shit on their site.
googling said ur looking about the 300-350 dollar range
googling said ur looking about the 300-350 dollar range
that's the dev kit, that has nothing to do with the CV1 pricing palmer said it would be way more
So, is there any idea of pricing?
Seems they're unveiling it together with the pre-orders opening. If you really want to get on it, try to reserve at least $600 (not saying that'll be the price, but that's the highest estimate I'd give. My best estimate is around $450.).
So EVE: Valkyrie isn't bundled but a pre-order bonus?
Appears to be the case.
I'm interested in the Oculus Rift but isnt there a Vive announcement happening soon?
HTC is supposedly unveiling a "big technological breakthrough" soon. Don't overhype it though.
I've just showed this to my brother, and shortly after he asked if we'd pre-order it together. That idea got smashed instantly when I found out my GPU appears to be the only one to support it, sadly. Is that actually true though? I myself got a GTX 970, and to put it into perspective my brother has my old HD 7950.
VR still seems like a gimmick for people who have too much money for now.
that's the dev kit, that has nothing to do with the CV1 pricing palmer said it would be way more
ah ur right, over 350. misread this
that's the dev kit, that has nothing to do with the CV1 pricing palmer said it would be way more
Wait so the CV1 is going to cost more? I thought that was going to be the opposite, heard that back when the project started.
Wait so the CV1 is going to cost more? I thought that was going to be the opposite, heard that back when the project started.
that was a long time ago, and plans change
VR still seems like a gimmick for people who have too much money for now.
Desktop VR is going to be a high-end affair for the first few years, nobody is denying that. VR will only start gaining traction this year, not break into the mainstream. Playstation VR and GearVR (and other mobile VR platforms) will probably be the most accessible to people. [editline]4th January 2016[/editline]
Wait so the CV1 is going to cost more? I thought that was going to be the opposite, heard that back when the project started.
The Facebook buyout changed a lot of plans. The Rift we're getting now is way beyond the consumer Rift they envisioned back then.
I'll wait for the second revision, or when the competitors bring out their VR systems. No point in blowing out so much money in VR this early.
Is VR awesome? Yep. Does VR have the potential to shape the way people think about video games and lead to breakthroughs in the biomedical and military sectors? Probably. Is pre-ordering video game-related things (or practically anything, for that matter), still a bad idea? You bet.
It'll be cool but as it is with all cool new tech, wait for revision 2 so they iron out all of the major problems.
Wait so the CV1 is going to cost more? I thought that was going to be the opposite, heard that back when the project started.
There is a lot of hype over VR right now. Of course these developers are going to cash in on it while they can.
There is a lot of hype over VR right now. Of course these developers are going to cash in on it while they can.
Could it be that the tech used matured over time and they found new tech to put in that would make the experience better at the consequence of making the price go up? Could it be that things change after several years of research and development? Nah, it's probably just a cynical cash grab for no reason other than to trick nerds.
I'm interested but until I hear from what both valve and Oculus offer I won't place an order - So once CES is over with I can make my pick
What are the specs on the screens on the oculus now?
What are the specs on the screens on the oculus now?
They're custom made screens designed just for VR. As in, they have a very high pixel fill ratio (to remove the screendoor effect, the black space between pixels), they have global refresh (the pixels all refresh at the same time, instead of "scanning" like monitors), they're 90hz, and the resolution is 2160×1200 (1080×1200 per eye, there's two separate screens which can be adjusted together with the lenses to accomodate different IPDs)
so conflicted as to which one to buy also seriously thinking of putting stocks in this whole VR thing
It's too late for Oculus, considering the Facebook acquisition bound them together under the Facebook name. People thought I was dumb for buying 21 dollar per share Facebook stocks back in 2012 as a Christmas gift to myself and long term investment. They're over 100 dollars now thanks to the Oculus acquisition, it was ~$70 a share on the day FB bought them in March 2014 and it's only going to go up (I hope). You can (maybe) buy into HTC stocks but they're sitting somewhere in the 60-80 dollar range IIRC, and unless VR is a blockbuster hit it's hard to tell if their stocks will rise dramatically or not.
I'll wait for the Vive to see which one is the better product.
