The microorganism stuff is really cool.

i refuse to watch anything with a red clickbait arrow pointing at a poorly photoshopped finger in the thumb
Oh hey, it's Matthew "I copy Listverse" Santoro
My sister keeps watching this guy constantly on her iPad without earbuds as background noise.
I may learn a few random things, but it still got distracting pretty quickly.
How to enjoy a "list" format video
1. take the subject of the video
2. enter that into google search
3. Click the wikipedia page/top5 search results.
Congrats now you don't have to waste your time on a video that's clickbaity, poorly executed, not well researched and pumped out like turds on a cattle ranch.
it can be good if they're a good horror story teller and actually worth their weight
Going just by the thumbnail, I already know the scientific explanation for more than 5 fingers and I'm not even a biologist.
afaik placebo is a simple and pretty well understood thing, people who believe that they're getting better will be less anxious and concerned about their illness, which in turn will make them feel better, I.E even though the cure does absolute nothing, they still feel better than they did before, which they in turn will interpret as "yeah it works!".
The "Positive thinking can actually cure cancer!!!" part is pure bullshit, the patients may feel better, but it doesn't actually fix anything. Tbh it just feels like this guy is taking his points from snake oil websites

It's a bit more complicated than that, studies have shown that a placebo can/will produce a real physiological response, for example if I gave you a drink and told you it was alcoholic and you truly believed me, you might genuinely start to feel the effects of alcohol despite not having any.
It's known what it is, but it's not really understood why or how our mind and body affect each other in that kind of way.
The real question is, can science explain the biological anomaly that compels people into making clickbaity thumbnails and videos that would be 90% filler and 10% content?

so then why does the placebo effect work on babies and animals

I'd like a source on that

For babies, there's no definite study that i could find without looking on JSTOR, which I didnt have time for, however babies do stop crying when they are held by their parents after they are hurt when being held doesnt help them.

I don't think that's really related to the placebo effect, that sounds more like a hormone thing.

.. That's literally the same thing as what I talked about, though? A comforting action that makes them feel better, while it doesn't technically "repair" anything physical
To me top 10 videos requires just as little effort to make as react videos. You just read off some website, collect different images/videos and just put them together. WatchMojo is a prime example of how you do not even need to try, just pump that shit out.

Even channels like Dark5 despite having some interesting content occasionally face the exact same problems as all "Top X list" videos and most of the time are indeed just stagnant (i.e: in the case of Dark5, anything that heads straight into conspiracy theory territory).
Like Vodkavia said: its better to just search things like this outside of Youtube during your spare time. It also avoids the risk of such information being overblown since it'll most likely be directly from the source.
Did you post this just so we could make fun of him?

Linus Tech Tips also kinda boarded this train with their recent videos. It's cancer, and it's spreading.

Saying that science cant explain things like the placebo effect is pretty much wrong. It took a pretty easy search to find papers on it in the journal of neuroscience, and from what one of them would suggest we actually do have real evidence to explain the mechanism by which it functions. We have been researching this effect since the 70s.
This paper from 2005 has more details: http://www.jneurosci.org/content/jneuro/25/45/10390.full.pdf
