Israeli army 'targeting journalists': Foreign Press Association
THE Foreign Press Association on Sunday accused the Israeli army of "deliberately targeting'' journalists after soldiers fired rubber bullets and threw a stun grenade at photojournalists clearly identified as press.
In a statement, the Tel Aviv-based group, which represents journalists of all foreign media, including AFP, said troops had directly targeted a group of photographers covering skirmishes at Qalandia crossing between Jerusalem and Ramallah.
"On Friday afternoon, Israeli forces threw stun grenades at FPA photojournalists as they were leaving Qalandia.
"The FPA members had put their hands in the air, indicating to the forces that they were leaving at which point the grenades were thrown from close quarters directly at their backs,'' it said.
Earlier an Italian freelance photographer covering the same incident had almost been hit in the face by a bullet, it said.
"Fortunately the photographer was taking pictures at the time and the rubber bullet shattered the camera instead of his head. All the photographers in question wore clearly-marked jackets and helmets,'' the FPA said.
"There is no question that the forces were directly targeting the journalists.''

That's so fucked up.

It corroborates with what I've been trying to tell to certain posters in the past. The military occupation restricts free press, they'll simply shoot at journalists who try to cover whats happening there. Then the same posters have the audacity to complain that I can't provide them with alternative sources.

Expensive cameras: better than any helmet.

That's kind of all that military occupations are capable of doing. They cry foul at so-called atrocities committed by other people and are excellent at trying to hide their own mistakes.
That'll teach those pesky journalists to portray Israel negatively.

Its a shame that alot of right wing Americans call freedom of the press during war one of Americas greatest weaknesses.
Israel needs to be dissolved.
As a country it should simply cease to exist.
That's the shit you get when you are standing with the protesters. It's very fast paced and once the shooting starts it's very difficult for the Israelis to accurately pick targets.
If they resorted to shooting and throwing flash grenades they were probably getting rocks thrown at them. It's kind of difficult to stay calm and collected when these people are throwing rocks, the size of softballs and footballs, at them.

Also, the area the incident occurred has always been a hotspot for conflict and the presence of the media escalates it to a point that causes danger for the IDF. They do not deliberately start t fire upon anybody until the rioters start to throw rocks.

Throwing stun grenades in response to rocks is not a method of deescalation. Aggressive tactics have no place in dealing with protesters that don't make targeted attempts on anyone's life.
(Yes, I don't consider thrown rocks as violence with killing intend. You'd have to get a really unlucky hit to seriously injure someone wearing army gear and a riot shield would be more than enough to deflect them.)
It doesn't surprise me that IDF members often show disregard for other people's health or lives and try to escalate the conflict, considering Israel has basically institutionalised racism and xenophobia.
I watched a documentary a few years ago about pro Israel lobbying and the trips to holocaust memorials a good portion of youth go on (according to the film).
It's not a radical piece either, I think it was made by an Israeli and it's very clear that the politician they focus on means well but seems to have a somewhat strange view of modern opinion on Jews and Israel.
He's pretty much on a crusade against some "enemies of Israel" that he thinks are in the majority everywhere though. (He's far too young to have witnessed any of WWII so I suppose he was somehow radicalised or grew up in a hate filled environment.)
The trip is not bad in itself either, there's nothing wrong with remembering and learning about history. (We have a good amount of that here in Germany, a very large chunk of history lessons over multiple years (not continuous) deals with the topic.)
The problem is that they tell lies to them about everyone outside their bus being out to get them and also send a bodyguard that seems to be there specifically to reinforce the image.
It's clear that there is some real resentment and suffering by people who were alive or born at the time, but I don't think anyone has the right to "restitution" for suffering that is not theirs. I'll try to look up the film, it's really good.
(I rated you dumb because using disproportionate force is atrocious and trying to justify it is fucking stupid. The IDF giving people free reign to commit crimes is not the norm for armed forces for good reason.)

It's Defamation by Yoav Shamir, I really recommend it if you have the opportunity.
