And the CEO of one of America's largest retailers says such a move would be good for workers and businesses alike. In fact, he says raise it even more. On Tuesday, Costco CEO and President Craig Jelinek came out in support of the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2013, which aims to raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10 per hour, then adjust it after that for inflation. "At Costco, we know that paying employees good wages makes good sense for business," Jelinek said in a statement. "We pay a starting hourly wage of $11.50 in all states where we do business, and we are still able to keep our overhead costs low."
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/06/costco-ceo-minimum-wage-craig-jelinek_n_2818060.html?utm_hp_ref=fb&src=sp&comm_ref=false#sb=2234724,b=facebook
Minimum wage in Alberta is about $10, even for part time workers. I can't believe some people in the USA live off of $7 wages
Sure I'll take some more cash let's do this.
costco is brilliant, love that place
Costco is an amazing example of how to do and run your business.
Costco is the best shit. Bulk shopping at it's best.
$11.50? Fuck, I want to work at costco. Though i'm sure everyone else in the city does too.
Unfortunately not every company is as profitable or as generous as this one. The minimum wage will have to get up to that point eventually, but we're not quite there yet.
Minimum wage in Alberta is about $10, even for part time workers. [editline]7th March 2013[/editline] But damn, the CEO of Costco Wholesale. I would most definitely go there in the (unlikely) event of a zombie apocalypse.
It's about time minimum wage is raised in this country. We're miles behind most of the world when it comes to labor regulations.
America can afford to raise it to $20 if they wanted to.
I make $7.79 an hour and I support this (who doesn't want more money) though I can also imagine there'd some problems and cuts for the businesses that would effect.
America can afford to raise it to $20 if they wanted to.
no, they really could not.
I have never once seen a Costco in my life. ;_;
I have never once seen a Costco in my life. ;_;
Really? They're kinda huge and hard to miss. It would be sweet as hell if it was raised to $10, but I'll take any raise really.
Minimum wage in Alberta is about $10, even for part time workers. I can't believe some people in the USA live off of $7 wages
Different cost of living.
America can afford to raise it to $20 if they wanted to.
$20 is insane for minimum wage, and the only thing it would do is increase unemployment
fun fact: since opening in the 80's, costco has never increased the price of their $1.50 hotdog/drink combo
We have Costco here in the UK. I didn't believe in its magic until I saw someone stumble through the front door with like 80 rashers of bacon.
I only make 7.80 an hour and this would really help me pay for college and other expenses.
This would destroy small businesses though.
America can afford to raise it to $20 if they wanted to.
That is not how business works. 10 is good, you can't push the envelope too much.
Oh man i'd love that. I've been working at the same job for 3 years and after 4 raises, i'm only NOW making 8$/hr. I started at $7.25 and my first raise was 40 cents. After my first raise my company changed on how they administer raises and based them on how many rewards cards we sold to customers. I'm not a cashier and i don't sell products so it took them 3 more raises to make up the additional 40 cents and everyone there, even my general manager agrees that i'm one of the best workers there. As you can tell it's a very successful system. However, is our nation even financiall capable of doing this? I actualyl doubt it.
I love costco so much it's not even funny.
Really? They're kinda huge and hard to miss. It would be sweet as hell if it was raised to $10, but I'll take any raise really.
Mostly Wal-Marts and Krogers/Food Lions since I live in the mid-south (Virginia), but even living in New York for 13 years I still haven't seen one.
I had an interview with Costco, they said no. It was my first interview for a job though, I don't know how I even got it in the first place.
I want to work at Costco now.
10$/hour to tell you love people
Damming why can't we have that over here. Used to get paid like $4.50 an hour
Damming why can't we have that over here. Used to get paid like $4.50 an hour
So how was living in a box doing for you?
I always thought that Costco was nicer than Wal-Mart.
