Half Life 2: Episode 3 Concept Fan Art - Arctic Horizon
10 replies, posted
I had an independent project for art class, a final actually, which is due tommorow. The medium could be whatever we chose. I went for digital art, and video games.
I thought it would be fun to make some fake concept art for Episode 3, and get as close to the story line and feel that Episode 3 might have. EP2 kinda spoiler: At the end of EP2 we see a helicopter, and after we saw the video that Mossman sent, we can only assume we're going north. I know it's not a perfect recreation of the vehicle, but it was mostly done for fun. I threw the little Episode 3 tag in the upper right for shits and giggles.
Any C&C welcomed. I've already printed it for class and I don't plan on making any changes for that, but if I upload to DeviantArt later I'll make any major changes there.

Very nicely done, your improvements are noticable.
Anyways good piece, couple of things though, the center of the propeller is very flat, it's actually just 2d and very noticable. Maybe bump it out with some 3d aspect of some sort.
The pieces of white floating next to the edge of the white snow, they are 2d too, not one 3d chunk, would be nice to see some broken off drifting small icebergs.
On the edge of the ice plate, there are these two white lines going across, it's too formal to be natural. Sctratch it up a bit. Add more lines and try to use them to create a more dynamic shape to the edge.
The sun seems to be casting god rays from some mountains but not others, also the front of the mountains need to be a lot darker than the edges due to the sun being behind the mountains.
Also a bit more detail in the helicopter would be nice, and the windows could use some fixing, such as them being just grey circles.
That's my critique, if there's anything more I'll add onto this post. Overall good job with the whole piece, composition works really well and so does the saturation go with the mood. Nicely done.
Carry on.

Rated blue i. I only had a few days to think up and complete this, inbetween work and school, so I had to take some shortcuts unfortunately. I had figured the 2D aspects of the blades and the floating ice would be apparent, but I hoped to hide them in the overall image.
Also you have a point about the blue lines at the edge of the glacier. I was hoping for a quick shot at a 3D feel, again, to save time. It worked but at the expense of being unnatural I guess.
And, with the god rays, yeah. Threw that in last second because they give me a hard on. Seriously. Playing Crysis was like having sex.
I'll definitely fix those up for the final digital upload later this week.
Thanks for the comment!
What can I say. Looks very good.
I don't see any pictures sadly. :C
Would you mind also posting the links. I think your image service doesn't allow hotlinking to the Netherlands.

Fucking awesome.
Very nice work there.
Pretty awesome.
Perspective on the edge of the ice barrier, especially on the right side could use some work.

Yeah, the bottom right area there needs some refining. Guess I overlooked it.
Looks bloody snazzy.
Love your stuff.
