• Vous furieux? French media accuses Britain of cheating in the Olympic cycling
The vast majority of French sports fans believe the success of Britain's cyclists at the Olympics has been 'tainted by cheating,' a poll has revealed. They suggest that anything from drugs to illegal technology may have been used by Team GB as it won nine medals in the Velodrome, including seven golds. By contrast, the French have won three silver medals, finishing second to the British in two events. A rolling internet poll for leading sports magazine L'Equipe currently asks: 'Do you think the performance of British cyclists at the London Games has been tainted by cheating.' By late afternoon today, a resounding 70 per cent of readers had answered 'Yes' with just 24 per cent replying 'No' and the rest undecided. It follows the French saying Team GB's riders, including Sir Chris Hoy and Laura Trott, were hiding their 'magic wheels' after races. France team director Isabelle Gautheron said: ‘We are asking a lot of questions: how have they gained so many tenths of seconds?’ ‘Have they found a new training process based on certain energy pathways? I am not talking about any illicit product, because anti-doping tests are so strong. ‘We are looking a lot at the kit they use. They hide their wheels a lot. The ones for the bikes they race on are put in wheel covers at the finish.’
Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2184545/London-Olympics-2012-French-accuse-cyclists-cheating-Jason-Kenny-storms-gold-medal.html
France has been driven so "mad" by British cycling success that they are resorting to questioning the team's honesty, David Cameron has said. The prime minister said the French had found the sight of the Champs Elysée covered in union flags to greet Bradley Wiggins's Tour de France victory "a bit hard to take". And with riders and coaches raising questions about the legality of Team GB's bikes, he said one French media outlet he was interviewed by "virtually accused us of cheating". Just over a week ago, Cameron was forced to suffer a ribbing by the French president, François Hollande, about the relative performances of their two countries at that point. Hollande jokingly thanked Britain for "rolling out the red carpet" for French athletes to win medals – after joining the PM to watch his country play handball. But the tables have dramatically turned since then, with France now having only eight gold medals so far to Great Britain's 22 – and 20 fewer of all colours. The velodrome has proved a particular cauldron for cross-channel rivalry, with British dominance of the podium sparking irate suggestions of foul play. But Cameron, in an interview with Chris Evans on BBC Radio 2, suggested their frustration was a sign of just how well the British system was working. "We've got a system that seems to be delivering. It's driving the French mad," he said. "I did an interview with French television yesterday and they virtually accused us of cheating. I think they found the union jacks on the Champs Elysée a bit hard to take. "We have got a great system so let's build on that and then when we go to Rio in 2016 we can have a good experience." Cameron, who was in the stadium on "super Saturday" when Team GB won three gold medals in track and field, said: "When I think of the most moving moment for me on that Saturday night, there he was, this sort of slightly lonely figure with the team of Ethiopians and the team of Kenyans chasing him down and trying to stretch him out by having these short bursts of pace and he just kept plugging away and that last lap was just unbelievably emotional and exciting."
Source: http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012/aug/09/david-cameron-british-cycling-france?newsfeed=true Sounds like somebody can't handle being dominated.
Waving their white flags by voting yes I see?
magic wheels oh no who couldve ever imagined
We should ignore the fact that all this stuff was cleared earlier in the year by cycling's governing body. Then again, look at any sport that has some sort of tech related development with it and you will always see the winners being accused of flouting the rules.
Does NSP stand for "Ne sais pas"? [editline]9th August 2012[/editline] basically "don't know"
magic wheels oh no who couldve ever imagined
You want to know the funniest thing? The wheels were made in France.
It’s bad enough for French cyclists to see British stars take most of the medals – but now it’s emerged that Team GB’s ‘magic’ wheels are made... in France.
Source: http://www.metro.co.uk/olympics/907824-team-gb-cyclings-wheels-of-magic-are-made-in-france
Out of curiosity though... if any one team were to discover legit new training regimens that really do boost performance considerably, would the team have an obligation to reveal the new methods under the guise of "sportsmanship"?
Guess where these wheels are made... France
Am I the only one who face-palmed each time I saw someone trying to speak French but failed miserably?
i swear threads like these are the only place where learning french has ever been useful then again talking pineapples [editline]9th August 2012[/editline]
Am I the only one who face-palmed each time I saw someone trying to speak French but failed miserably?
my french is immaculate you americain pig butt
Out of curiosity though... if any one team were to discover legit new training regimens that really do boost performance considerably, would the team have an obligation to reveal the new methods under the guise of "sportsmanship"?
I'm not sure how it works but apparently everything the British cyclists are using (apart from the heated shorts) have been available for the general public to purchase (probably at some extremely high price due to being custom made). So if the French REALLY wanted to know what was going on they could find out. Also the "magic" wheels are apparently the same wheels the French are using but they are more round.
couldn't possibly have anything to do with the millions of pounds that's been pumped into the sport over the past few 12 years. no. or the fact that our athletes train incredibley hard. no or that they were simply better than everyone else. nope. too silly
Out of curiosity though... if any one team were to discover legit new training regimens that really do boost performance considerably, would the team have an obligation to reveal the new methods under the guise of "sportsmanship"?
I doubt it, a big part of the medals being won is the involvement of the scientists and researchers who help the athletes reach their maximum potential, the effort and resources they pour into getting maximum performance shouldn't be something that they are obligated to share with other countries who didn't devote the same amount of energy. Of course, there is nothing stopping other countries from finding out about those methods on their own.
"I am going p furious"
thematically consistent with the title
It's one thing to claim your opponent has some sort of advantage because of their tires, then to find out those tires were made by your country. The god damn irony.
It's because Chris Hoy got an aerodynamic advantage from Gillette [sp]You won't get that outside the UK[/sp]
It's because Chris Hoy got an aerodynamic advantage from Gillette [sp]You won't get that outside the UK[/sp]
It's incredible how much half a millimetre less beard can shave off your time.
i can see the olympics 100 years in the future... men genetically engineered to have aerodynamic faces compete with eachother with rocket shaped bodies on the modern equivalent of chariot in a bid for the glory of their country / the borg

Op...could you tell me where you 'learnt' French? I think you got cheated and ripped off. 'Vous furieux' ? Where is the verb? And even with a verb it would be out of context. Try 'On est furieux' Now readin comments towards other French users correcting you... Please take the hint and get the fuck out.
Someone's a sore loser.
