Think Rubin is pretty spot on with this one.
Definitely hit the nail on the head about people trying to approach it like a conventional movement and unintentionally legitimizing it. To me alt-right never seemed to be more than doing things for shock value and having a really flippant attitude about actual issues. It's like a dangerous, more tongue-in-cheek version of flat-earthers. I think it describes Trump perfectly and I think part of the reason his rhetoric is so extreme is that he doesn't take the campaign very seriously. The problem with guys like him and Milo, who I know less about but I assume isn't far off in his attitude, is that it doesn't matter whether or not they believe what they say because they have a big audience and their more extreme followers are going to do real damage.
I actually quite enjoyed that video; it certainly wasn't what I was expecting. I think he's spot on his analysis: a huge portion of the "alt-right" is simply trolls trying to get a reaction out of people, though at the same time, many are real racists. And, as the saying goes, don't feed the trolls. I may not particularly like Rubin, and I deplore Milo, but he did good here.
The alt-right isn't a real "movement" or political identity. It's 4chan trolls. These are the same people who relentlessly attacked Christian conservatives over the last decade, they don't care about politics. Like Dave said, it's just the same old memesters that have always been here. [editline]31st August 2016[/editline] Also he's getting Scott Adams on his show! Fuck yeah!
