Nurse Who Fell For Australian DJ's "Kate Middleton" Prank Call Commits Suicide
A nurse who took the hoax call at the Duchess of Cambridge’s London hospital was found dead today. She had been phoned by two Australian radio presenters and believed she was speaking to the Queen.
The woman then passed the call to a colleague, who revealed details of Kate’s condition. An ambulance was called this morning to the King Edward VII Hospital in Marylebone.
The nurse was found unconscious on premises nearby. Paramedics made desperate efforts to revive her but she was pronounced dead at the scene close to the hospital.
The nurse is understood to be the first person heard during the prank call by the hosts from the Australian radio station 2Day FM.
She was at first thought to be a receptionist at the hospital but is now understood to be a nurse staffing the switchboard.
She transferred the hoaxers to a second nurse on the Duchess’s ward who gave them an update about her condition saying she had had an “uneventful night”.
The Duchess was released from the hospital yesterday but the stunt provoked global outrage.
William and Kate were reported to be angry at the intrusion.
The woman nurse who has been found dead took the call from the radio DJs in the early hours of Tuesday morning saying: “Hello, good morning, King Edward VII Hospital.”
The presenter, Mel Greig, who was impersonating the Queen said: “Oh, hello there. Could I please speak to Kate please, my granddaughter?”
The woman answered: “Oh yes, just hold on ma’am.”
Scotland Yard said: ”Police were called at about 9.35am on Friday December 7 to reports of a woman found unconscious at an address in Weymouth Street, W1.
“The London Ambulance service attended and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Inquiries are continuing to establish the cirumstances of the incident.
“The death is being treated as unexplained.”
Sources say the death is not being treated as suspicious.
The two hoaxers, Greig and Michael Christian, were put through to a second nurse who told them: “She’s sleeping at the moment and she has had an uneventful night. She’s been given some fluids, she’s stable at the moment.”
The 2Day FM station in Sydney later apologised for the shocking prank
The stunt was deeply embarrassing for the Edward VII Hospital, which is the medical institution of choice for the Royal Family.
It led people to take to Twitter and social networking sites voicing their disbelief.
However, Prince Charles yesterday made a joke about the hoax, asking reporters: “How do you know I’m not a radio station?”
After the incident earlier this week John Lofthouse, chief executive at the King Edward VII Hospital, said: “This was a foolish prank call that we all deplore. We take patient confidentiality extremely seriously and we are now reviewing our telephone protocols.”
No-one at the hospital was available for comment this morning.
Oh god, that's horrifying. Why would you go and do that? What would it accomplish.
oh man. The people who phoned must be feeling horrible right now. :c
Wait, what?
How thin-skinned you have to be to commit suicide over something like this?
wtf did they even do wrong. all they did was impersonate the queen. is there some unspoken thing where if you hear the queen you ust kill yourself?
you fucking kidding? getting pranked isn't something to kill yourself over
Wait I don't understand, what?

The nurse revealed information that was supposed to be confidential
wtf did they even do wrong.
Breached doctor/patient confidentially.
There's got to be something more behind it.

She's probably getting a lot of flak for what she did.
oh man. The people who phoned must be feeling horrible right now. :c
I think they'll be in bed now.
There's got to be something more behind it.
I imagine suddenly being in the news and general media for doing something wrong can get debilitating very quickly.
Let's be clear, it wasn't because of the phone prank.
Otherwise there was something wrong with her, she could have been mentally ill.

You know what I meaaaaaan. I think there's a pretty decent chance that they were told immediately though.
Maybe she DIDN'T commit suicide, conspiracy! Government coverup!
Article doesn't mention suicide anywhere. I'm guessing she died from some medical condition and it's just coincidence that she happened to be the one to take the call.

Revealing confidential information would probably have gotten her into a hell of a lot of trouble, especially when it's about someone in the royal family who are constantly being hounded by the media, never mind the humiliation she probably felt. She may also have had depression problems as well which could have contributed.

^ This. Perhaps this caused undue stress that furthered the condition.
Wouldn't be surprised if the the 2Day FM cast faces charges for being involved with the suicide (or to be yet determined cause of death) of the nurse.

Like what?
This is all a cover up, reports say that daniel craig was seen leaving the hospital shortly before she was found dead
Holy shit what the fuck.
I'll be seeing this on the news tonight.
I'd guess it's the status she had being employed at a hospital like that. When being tricked by such a simple thing, ending up with confidential information being leaked, I can imagine she would have a great sense of guilt because of it. Nonetheless, a tragic event.

This is what I believe as well. When she understood it was a prank call, she probably got worried her life would get fucked upside down for revealing confidential intell about someone so "important". It doesn't take much for some people to do stupid stuff out of fear.
Stress is different for everybody
Queenie got her revenge.
She's probably getting a lot of flak for what she did.
This, plus embarrassment of the highest order
Wait, what?

yeah i know right. its only the entire world that got to hear and see how badly she fucked up and how dumb she must be for being fooled like that.
