New York Stock Exchange Glitches; Trading Shuts Down
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) has halted trading today, leaving investors unable to buy and sell securities.
A technical issue has triggered a system-wide halt, officials said, and all open orders will be canceled.
"We're currently experiencing a technical issue that we’re working to resolve as quickly as possible," a spokeswoman for the NYSE said in a statement. "We will be providing further updates as soon as we can, and are doing our utmost to produce a swift resolution, communicate thoroughly and transparently, and ensure a timely and orderly market re-open."
China shut its market down earlier, as well.
Suspect?
United airlines down, trading down, wall street journal went down for awhile as well. Chinese markets also in sharp decline. Just a coincidence but still kinda eerie
Welp, we are all going to be poor. :v:
Anything to do with the HackingTeam sources being released?
I strongly doubt it was a Chinese hack, probably an internet backbone problem, at least in the case of the NYSE.
Well hopefully this doesnt cause any major shit to go down.
This is very worrying
RIP economy.
2008 round 2

Panic when they all go down at once.
Somebody must have updated windows and broken all their software
That makes you wonder about redundancy. I'm not informed at all on the methods they have for transmitting and storing stock data, or even the data they use, but what happens if a few undersea cables get severed? Does the market just crash and burn, do they pause all operations, do they fallback to older/slower methods?
