What a lame excuse to spew out more expansions.
Yes, less people are buying and playing our game, so lets add another expansion requiring new users to have to dish out yet another $40 if they want to get into the game.
I'm not sure what happened with WotLK. People were still working on Molten Core when TBC came out and people were still working on Karazhan when WotLK came out but everyone and their mother had cleared every inch of content months before cataclysm came out. Its like the only content thats worth doing anymore is the latest and greatest and EVERYONE gets at it at the same time and people finish it and get bored waiting for the next patch/expansion. Theres no progression anymore its just *Get gear from newest raid and wait to do the next one the release* Course this is just Raiding i'm talking about but maybe if they went back to the way WoW was in TBC they wouldn't need to shell out expansions faster.
I have a feeling this is activision trying to make WoW another half assed, fast, expensive game.
It was fairly obvious Cataclysm wasn't going to last as long in the "new things" department, it was a remake of the old world, if I had to put %s, I'd say 65 % of the work went in the old 1-60 content, which is good, mind you, but a lot of people didn't bother, and the end-game content doesn't really hold a candle compared to older expansions, AND was reached faster, due to how there was only a couple of new places, rather than entire new zones to explore.
Fuck. For a second there I thought WoW was going F2P :smith:
Maybe they should put the old cashcow down and get a new one instead??
Expansions coming faster is a byproduct of putting content out faster, by delivering a lot of content quickly, they will much more quickly reach the height of the expansion unless they add in a TONNNNN of pointless unrelated-to-the-expansion filler. When they make expansions, they have certain things in mind. The entire progression of Cataclysm (down to the final stats players will have @ 85 in Deathwing gear) was already planned out before the expansion was released...they have to do that, it lets them fill in all the blanks in between much much easier with iLvls and stats and abilities. Pushing that content out quicker is going to force new expansions to get made. You could argue they could just make bigger expansions, but that requires even more time to plan and would likely be counter-intuitive. By doing this, they are trying to stop the big gaps where nothing happens. When Wrath of the Lich King was about to end, there was a year where no new content was added and people were just raiding the same fights constantly for a year while Cataclysm was being made. Breaks like that are gigantic sub losers.
I'd like to think that at least some of those lost subs were do to the Sony PSN problems, but at the same time I can see the current amount of Cataclysm content make the more "hardcore" players not want to play anymore or at least, not as often.
People aren't getting better at the game. The game is just getting easier.
A pay-once model like Guild Wars might draw my attention. Monthly subs however, no way.
I quit, as well as most of my small guild (about 10 people total) because we were just tired of WoW. It could just be good old fashion fatigue after playing it for so many years. Would be interesting to see precise data on those that left. I actually am going to resub when the next major patch comes out though.
Maybe if Blizzard tried my idea, customers might be more interested in playing. How about throwing in a month of game time when someone buys an expansion pack? It at least provides an incentive to upgrade.

Misread the title, thought WoW was now free.
How are PSN problems even remotely related to WoW?
People canceling (or atleast unlisting) their credit cards, either directly due to PSN credit card info being stolen, or indirect paranoia about security.

The problem is Blizzard are just getting lazy, cutting corners with reusing models and old content, its not something i find interesting that i get a current high level item that looks the fucking same as something 4 years ago. Also most of the new stuff they add ( archaeology for example ) is a half assed shit attempt and nothing new and interesting. The fact is the game is incredibly boring when your day on it consists of doing the same dungeon over and over. More expansions aren't a good thing in this case because the content they add is just always so same old and half assed.
WoW died for me when Arthas died. There just aren't any cool villians anymore.

Archaeology is rather new, I haven't played a MMO where they have a entire profession dedicated to just getting vanity items. Alot of the high level items are changed. Unless you're talking about the robes. They have new textures, Which make sense, Because you can't come up with 50 robe models.
This is exactly why I stopped playing WoW
Holy shit guys our subs have dropped with 5% let's make the game MORE EXPENSIVE!
I bought cata. Played for two months. I'm an idiot.
WoW is just boring now, it has lost its magic. Rift is better, plus its a new experience.
new experience.
lol
So, some of the wrathbabies left. Big deal. It's good for the community.
Activision Blizzard: Guitar Hero sales down, we need more games. ->Guitar Hero dead Activision Blizzard: WoW subscribers down, we need more expansions. ->One can hope
Yes, less people are buying and playing our game, so lets add another expansion requiring new users to have to dish out yet another $40 if they want to get into the game.
you are absolutely clueless
I wonder if the best starcraft players get a job offer to micro-manage blizzard’s wow server load, hotkeys and all. You must construct additional content patches. Your subcription numbers are under attack! Guild Wars 2 launch detected! SPAWN MORE SUBSCRIBERS
lmao
