Super Smash Bros. for 3DS has been a big success for Nintendo since it launched last month in Japan and last week in North America and Europe. Nintendo has announced the game has sold more than 2.8 million units worldwide.
"Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is already in the hands of more than 2.8 million people worldwide, and the road ahead looks great," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "Nintendo's holiday software lineup is more than impressive, and our amiibo figures start a new chapter in the world of Nintendo interactive entertainment. With so many great experiences available, this holiday season is going to be an amazing time to be a Nintendo fan."
Nintendo announced that the release date for the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. will be on the 21st of November with the Amiibo figurines coming out more or less around the same time.

Now if only I could find a place where it isn't sold out.
I'm glad I cancelled my pre-order. Seems like the Wii U version is the definitive version.

the 3ds marketplace?

It translates better than I expected to the 3DS though. Of course the Wii U version will probably be more substantial but it is $20 more expensive.

its honestly going to be nearly the same, graphics and framerates on the 3ds are extremely good (because it hogs all the processing power on it to the point that it takes a while to start and close). If you have a 3ds with it, you can connect it to the wii U and use it as a separate controller remotely. The only difference would be some more stages and maybe a few new characters.
im going to get it for wiiU anyway.
Once again, NintenDOES what PS All-Stars doesn't.
Doesn't quite work as well as a reversed slogan.

iirc Sakurai said the roster would stay consistent between both versions of the game, so I imagine the biggest differences will be the stages, trophies and the like, and some sort of WiiU equivalent to Smash Run.
The game's fun and the gameplay itself is fantastic, but in terms of the amount of content it feels so... lacking. I hope the Wii-U version offers more.

I just want a story mode on the Wii U that's actually fun to play. Shame Sakurai has said there won't be anything like that.

Are you kidding? It's jam packed with content. It's almost overwhelming.
I have an OLD 3DS will it work for me like can I play it well or is there some bottons I need for it that's only on the 3DSi.
All I want from the Wii U version now is a Melee-style Adventure mode. Minimal effort from the development team, endless replay value.
The more I think about it, the more I miss event matches.

Doesn't it have less stuff than Melee though? I listened to the Super Best Friends talking about it and Liam said Brawl and Melee both have significantly more content that the new one.

Eh depends, Melee has event matches and adventure mode while the new one has more characters, I guess it depends what is more important to you.

Nuh uh. It's all about Kirby. That hardass montherfuckers not only uses his own powers, but everyone elses.

The new 3DS just has a few incremental upgrades like more RAM, better CPU and a few other technical changes. Control wise, they are exactly the same.
I think a couple features were removed for RAM reasons but they aren't crucial to the actual game itself.

The new 3DS isn't even released in Europe or NA yet AFAIK, so that's a pretty good hint that no, it won't be necessary.
I'm so burnt out on Smash, even the new characters aren't inciting.
It just feels like the same-ol same-ol, every match being the same spams and same shit, different stages.
from what I've played, the game is completely different depending on what character you're playing as.
