• North Korea offers to suspend nuclear tests if U.S. suspends military drills
(Reuters) - North Korea said on Saturday it was willing to suspend nuclear tests if the United States agreed to call off annual military drills held jointly with South Korea, but Washington rejected the proposal as a veiled threat. The offer, which the North's official KCNA news agency said was conveyed to Washington on Friday through "a relevant channel", follows an often repeated demand by Pyongyang for an end to the large-scale defensive drills by the allies. "The message proposed (that) the U.S. contribute to easing tension on the Korean peninsula by temporarily suspending joint military exercises in South Korea and its vicinity this year," KCNA said in a report. "(The message) said that in this case the DPRK is ready to take such a responsive step as temporarily suspending the nuclear test over which the U.S. is concerned," KCNA said, using the short form for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the nuclear tests and military exercises were separate issues. "The DPRK statement that inappropriately links routine US-ROK exercises to the possibility of a nuclear test by North Korea is an implicit threat," Psaki told reporters traveling with Secretary of State John Kerry in Europe. No way, oldest trick in the book.
You need military drills to keep a military force functioning and competent. This is fishy
How about we'll do that when you suspend the poor treatment of your citizens.
How many times did they "suspend" their nuclear program in exchange for humanitarian aid before? [editline]11th January 2015[/editline] Diplomacy isnt an on/off switch
Dear North Korea, What will you agree to do in order for us to agree to suspend our nuclear weapons testing? Signed, Basically every country with nukes except China, because we hate you for how you've treated your people under the Kim dynasty
So how ARE those nuclear tests going anyway?
So how ARE those nuclear tests going anyway?
They've done three last I checked - 1 total fizzle, 1 basically fizzle (something like 4kT) and one "successful" 15-20kT range iirc.
So how ARE those nuclear tests going anyway?
well they've managed to send a rock 30 meters with a slingshot, so i'd say it's going well
well they've managed to send a rock 30 meters with a slingshot, so i'd say it's going well
Well fuck I'd say its about time we raise the white flag boys.
I don't think it's a good idea, but if NK demanded US to half their military spendings then Id be on board.
WHEN I SAID I WOULD SUSPEND MY TESTS IF YOU STOPPED YOUR DRILLS, I MEANT I WOULD FIRE THE REAL THING. MAWHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!
Well fuck I'd say its about time we raise the white flag boys.
No point. We're already dead meat. 30 meters man, that's like... Across a whole culdesac right there.
