• File Hosting - The Definitive List

Sometimes it's hard for people to upload files. 99% of File Hosters are flawed. We have the awesome DropCanvas, and the not so awesome ORON. But too often I see people uploading their files to shoddy services, simply because they're well known sites (Rapidshare) and it makes me sad, for there are far, far better alternatives. So, I decided to create a definitive and constantly updates list, ranking the best of the best, while making not of all their features, file size limits, pros and cons. If you know of any awesome file hosts, by all mean post em. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Click the images to visit the sites *Each canvas has 5gb space, but you can create as many as you wish *Very fast download (750kb+) *Simple, uncluttered interface *File Management *No download limits or timers *Unlimited Storage *never deletes your files *Drag 'n Drop Interface *Up to 50gb Storage Space *Hotlink 10mb Images *Very good file manager *Video hosting WITHOUT any degradation of quality (supports most formats) *Audio hosting (not sure about .FLAC/Ogg Vorbis *Optional Desktop File Uploader *Drag 'n Drop interface -Some people seem to experience slow speeds downloading from there *You can hotlink ANY image, no matter what size. What's your beef with Rapidshare and ORON? If you're truly making a "definitive list," you'd say why they're not as good as the others. No bueno...

No bueno...
My beef with them both: -30kbps download speeds -fucking ridiculous download limits, where if you download a bunch of links it takes 2-3 hours until you are allowed to download the next part -Oh, you've downloaded too much, you'll have to wait 24 hours. [editline]6th July 2012[/editline] You would be hard pressed to find worse file hosters. [editline]6th July 2012[/editline]

Dropbox is great for synchronising files, but as a file hoster it leaves a lot to be desired. 2gb space? I'm good, thanks.
What's your beef with Rapidshare and ORON? If you're truly making a "definitive list," you'd say why they're not as good as the others. No bueno...
Because you have to wait to download. Same reason I never gave a fuck when MegaUpload shut down. I hated downloading from them.

What about Depositfiles, Filehost.ws,Rapidgator, filefactory, azushare, netload, BillionUploads , FileVelocity, Extabit .
I use Filesmelt a hell of a lot. Some Rar's that I've uploaded a year ago are still up there. Really it just depends on me remembering the URL of the download or just writing it down somewhere.
hey guyz sharecash iz rly coo. teh serveyz r qwik n ez

The others I shall look into. [editline]6th July 2012[/editline]
I use Filesmelt a hell of a lot. I still find it crazy that they let you hotlink 100mb images, what kind of batshit insanity is that.
Dropbox is great for synchronising files, but as a file hoster it leaves a lot to be desired. 2gb space? (im at 5Gb, havent even used 1Gb of it)
Haha, oh wow. If you think 2gb is a large amount of storage, I'm afraid you're mistaken. And yes, I know all about the referral system. You still can't get an optimum amount of storage unless you put in some time or pay for it. Dropbox is good for file syncing, lets leave it at that.
have you ever used either of those? They really do suck
I hate it to but a lot of the places I need to dl from use them so they can make money [sp]porn[/sp]
Sure, but I like how easy it is to host it. Drag & Drop.
Loads of hosts have drag & drop functionality.
I hate it to but a lot of the places I need to dl from use them so they can make money [sp]porn[/sp]
There is an explanation regarding that. ORON has been busy going around trying to buy all the porn forums. I know that they own pornbb, possibly the biggest of the bunch. They have referral schemes, to seduce users into using them to upload files, resulting in every link leading to oron.

Something that should only take an hour would extend over half a day. Sidenote, are premium accounts worth it?
Loads of hosts have drag & drop functionality.
So give me an example of where I can have a simple folder I can have on my desktop and can easily Drag and Drop files in to.
Sidenote, are premium accounts worth it?
Never. Be patient. Those fuckers are counting on you to cave in and dole out cash because you don't want to wait 2 days to download 5 300mb files. I'm going to add a bit about jDownloader after I've updated the OP, that thing is a godsend. [editline]6th July 2012[/editline]
So give me an example of where I can have a simple folder I can have on my desktop and can easily Drag and Drop files in to.
I don't deny that Dropbox is a great tool for file synchronizing, but it doesn't cut it in other aspects.

Since I didn't have to keep on opening links it made it that much safer.
How about you just leave me fucking be?
But.. you're the one that replied to me? Anyway jesus christ calm down bro.
So give me an example of where I can have a simple folder I can have on my desktop and can easily Drag and Drop files in to.
Dropbox is fine for storing personal stuff on, but it's not so great for public stuff. There's a limit on how many times the file can be downloaded/viewed in a day. Of course the pro/team accounts multiply the times a file can be downloaded by 10, but even then I don't think it's worth it. Dropbox is great for things like syncing papers and documents across multiple computers, but if you want to use it to host an image or file it'd be wiser to just use another host. [editline]6th July 2012[/editline] Oh, and you might want to add puu.sh to the list. I use it for all my quick image making needs. It's a pretty good host. There's a 20mb limit on the files you upload on a free account though. It's an easy way to quickly share files and images with friends. The links also work decently for forums. I haven't run into any problems with it yet. I wouldn't recommend it for long term hosting of a file though. It's mostly for quick funny image making and "here's the file you want bro" situations.
Nor have I
Is that the thing you worked your ass off to get? :v: [editline]6th July 2012[/editline]
I haven't paid a single cent
Again, I think Dropbox is fine for personal use, but if you're going to throw the file out to the public then it's better to use a host that doesn't cap you on the downloads of the file.
what about puush.me that can upload any kind of file. Oh and Box.com is pretty good too.
