Six people were killed and several others injured when a rally car spun out of control at the A Coruña rally in the north-western Spanish region of Galicia, Spanish police have said.
The driver lost control and skidded off the track killing four women, one of whom was pregnant, and two men. About a dozen people were hurt.
“One of the drivers took the track at a much higher speed than he should have and he veered off a curve, slamming into around 20 people,” said a civil guard spokesman.
Television footage on Saturday showed a rally car careering off a woodland track into a throng of onlookers in a cloud of dust.
Local media reported that the driver and co-driver were unharmed, although the police spokesman was unable to confirm that information.
“The Coruña rally is in mourning. My deepest condolences to the bereaved and wishes for a complete recovery of those injured,” prime minister Mariano Rajoy, who is from Galicia, said on his official Twitter feed.
You can see the crash video here (spectators injury and death, you've been warned).
Damn, its a terrible thing that happened. But people should really stand back away from rally tracks just incase shit like this happens.
I really hope nothing happens to the driver/co-driver because of this.
This is one of the reasons I avoid watching rallies live. Shit like these scare me to death.

Learn it, live by it. Many, many rally fans ought to memorize this before going to a rally event. A car going off his path at over 120+ MPH is serious fucking business.
Holy fuck, this is so sad, my condolences to all friends and family members of the victims.
As much as I don't want this thread to be turned into a "blame game", I just want to say that both rally fans and the organization are directly responsible; the fans for standing in a prohibited area (or so it appears, no confirmation yet) and the organization for not upholding those crowd safety restrictions strongly enough.

Even without ever having seen this graph, one should almost feel that "Hmm, perhaps this isn't really the best place to be standing considering the race car is coming from that direction straight towards us into this turn right here," or so, when attending the live race on the (prohibited) spot.

Useful though
Looking at some rally spectators always makes me cringe. It seems to be all about thrill-seeking for them.

It's generally a lot more regulated today though (as are the cars). I haven't seen the video of this so I can't say if the spectators were being reckless or not (not that I would judge dead people anyway). This footage is from 30 years ago.

The video in OP appears to be private, but indeed. I don't see any point in taking part of the blame game either. Almost everything that we do for fun and sport causes human injury and death, despite our attempts to learn from each case to better avoid it in the future. It's a tragic incident and sometimes, the only thing we can do, is to accept it, and move on.

Attempts to learn from accidents is one thing, while this kind is the complete opposite.
Of course reasonable people are going to disapprove foolish risk taking.

We had a terrible accident with a RS200, that killed spectators and driver iirc. Spectators died because they are plain reckless.
That's literally in my area, not even just my city. What the fuck.
And those kinds of Rallies are popular here, the road I have to drive home is full of dangerous turns and shit, so it was historically used as a Rally track.

This is common sense.
Apparently the police said the cause was that he was going too fast

I don't think the police are any sort of authority in a sport like this; it's not their call to make, is what I mean.

what? they don't need to be experts to determine that it was cause of someone going too fast, police deal w car accidents all the fucking time lmao
they should stick to the sped limit
he was probably going too fast for the texture he was driving on. the roads are closed down and there is technically no practical speed limit, but the drivers need to keep in mind the fact that they can easily lose control of course
hate to say it, but video mirror anywhere?

Going too fast there was the cause of the crash, but he still can't be blamed for their deaths. This sort of thing is why these signs are plastered everywhere around a motorsport event over here.

I'm not saying they deserved to get hit standing there, but it wasn't the right thing to do

The organisers are at fault here really, precautions should have been taken really, a simple length of rope tied to poles would have probably been enough, but hindsight is a wonderful thing
As far as I know from a friend who's friend was in the accident (peruvian guy who's sister died) and it seemed to be a safe place.
