Okay guys, I want to be serious here for a second. I'm probably going to make a lot of people mad, but just listen to me. Think for a moment before you read on. How much do you spend on weed? Per month? Per year? Per day?
I want you to realize how our legal system works here in the US, and really every country where democracy exists. We vote for candidates when election day comes, we decide who's the best for the job, we go through all the political bullshit and finally we have new leaders roughly every 4 years. For decades, those leaders have suppressed us weed smokers. They have made us into criminals, they have ruined our lives by throwing us in jail, they've made it easier for real crooks to go free because there's too many weed smokers and sellers in the system, clogging it up. We know this is an injustice, and we want something done, right?
How many of you actually vote? I know a lot of smokers that can't for different reasons, but I know more than just don't care. Shameful in itself, but there's a step before election day my friends. There's many actually. Parties elect their own members on special days because people register with said party. They decide who's going to be the democratic, republican, libertarian etc nominee. There's a step before that, and that's the rally. Here is where people put up their ideas and they get shot down, here is where revolutionaries need the most support, here is where it starts, and it isn't cheap.
My fellow potheads, what are we doing? We have allowed the US government to walk all over us; not because we are powerless, but because we've been too damned lazy. Moreover, we've cared too much about getting high than worrying about our future, about fighting for it. We've grown so accustomed to the shadows, it's become comfortable. No more, winds of change are coming. I'm begging you, stop letting the legal system walk all over you--get involved. This can't happen without you.
How much do you spend on weed? It's not magic that our political leaders still attack weed; the only people who fund candidates regularly are the old-fashioned anti-drug people. It's not a generalization, it's a fact--legalization is just not important. Think about how many people spend all of their spare change on weed. Think about all the money that is spent on the stuff nationally. Even in the UK and other places, think about how much it costs and how many people smoke it. If you took that number and cut it in half, and gave it to candidates that supported weed, I PROMISE you, there would be change. If our parents had done this in the fucking 60s, 70s, 80s, if they had actually rallied real money and not sat on their asses with peace signs, we, their children, wouldn't be in this mess right now. Stop fucking thinking "oh someone else will fund this, I'm a poor bitch, I need munchie money etc etc." That's what weed smokers have said for decades. If you can spend 40 dollars on weed, you can throw 5 dollars at a person who will help legalize it.
Stop smoking your life away, stop leaving it up to other people, stop wasting your money on dank you know is over-priced. Stop the violence, stop the hate, stop the propaganda, just plain, fucking STOP! I came to this startling conclusion today, and as I'm typing this, I'm smoking one of my last bowls. I will not smoke a single gram until this stuff is legalized right here, where I live.
From now on, all the money I set aside for weed is going towards a candidate that will speak for ME, a weed smoker, in the US government. Think about this, if everyone here cut back even HALF of their weed for donations, we could make a difference. Please, I'm begging you, get off your asses, bite the bullet, help stop this madness.
But how would we get the word out that pot smokers should donate part of their money towards candidate that supports legalization, real legalization. and how would we organize these donations?
Good luck waiting for the years to come.
you're never going to get enough people to quit smoking to donate money to lobbyists or whatever you're aiming for that will combat the obscene amounts of money corporations can throw against your cause. you're being a martyr for no good reason. let's say you smoke an ounce a month. that's around 400 bucks a month in my city. 400 x 12 = $4800 per year. That's chump change to politicians.
i do vote. but i'm not going to stop smoking and start sending my money to politicans in hopes that they'll actually be able to push for things i actually want. fuck, a lot of the democratic candidates this election aren't even supporting prop 19 when they could EASILY steal votes from single issue voters, which i have a feeling will make up a great deal of voters this election.
i see where you're going with your idea but i really think you're overestimating the effects of your newfound crusade.
Realize that you're not limited by the confines of society, tell me op.
Why do you need the herb to be legalized when you're sat smoking a bowl as you type that very post.
There isn't enough money in legalization, certainly not enough to tip the scale.
So ask yourself why the need for legalization when you can still smoke up and you can still get some seeds and grow a few plants, it's all good baby.
I'd rather spend my money on the erb' than throw it down a bottomless pit that will still never be deeper than the pockets of those who want to keep it illegal.
Dont care dont give a shit smoke weed errytime you get your hands on it

God damn it, I didn't say everyone quit smoking, I said I'M going to quit, or at least quit paying for it monthly, til it's legal.

That's what they want you to do man. Don't fall to the MAN!
BTW, I'll take your donations and totally run for office.
fuck that, i'll take the donations and fight the power by smoking a whole bunch of weed bought with the proceeds.
