"The band has run its course, we are done." Last year, David Gilmour and Nick Mason reconvened for the release of Pink Floyd’s first new album in 20 years, The Endless River. It appears the reunion was short lived, however. In an interview with Classic Rock Magazine, Gilmour says the band is “done” with Pink Floyd. “I’ve had 48 years in Pink Floyd – quite a few of those years at the beginning, with Roger [Waters]. And those years in what is now considered to be our heyday were 95% musically fulfilling and joyous and full of fun and laughter. I certainly don’t want to let the other 5% colour my view of what was a long and fantastic time together. But it has run its course, we are done – and it would be fakery to go back and do it again.”
http://consequenceofsound.net/2015/08/pink-floyd-breaks-up/
Aside from their touring efforts, or Rodger Waters' at least, it's probably over due given "their" studio outputs as of late.
Damn, woulda loved to see em in tour before they broke up.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO shit
The end of an era. I won't really call it sad news, because it's been a long time coming and not really that surprising at all. And I say this as a major Floyd fan.
To be fair they haven't really been together since 94.
they've been broken up for over 20 years. they've just had a few one off reunions

great band, great music, but everything must come to an end I suppose. my dad is a big fan of them, and I still remember him playing a lot of their songs in the car when I was a kid, with this one being played the most
finally
I thought they already broke up after they released their last album last year.
pink floyd broke up in 1969, anything post-1970 is just ponk flid.
shine on you crazy diamond
good. the endless river was the type of music you hear in the background of a church before the pastor starts yelling about gay people. it's literally an easy listening instrumental album syd barrett > roger waters > fucking david gilmour
I feel comfortably numb about it all.

I didn't really expect them to put anything out after division bell so I'm not surprised.
Thank god. Now let the stoner hype train die too.
guess we'll see them on the dark side of the moon

i mean... he tells me his favourite album is Wish You Were Here but from the sounds of all of it, I'm p sure he makes love to Division Bell.

problem is, you can never really judge barrett's potential material... he only put out very stark/sparse solo material which was so different to his floyd stuff. that being said, I think Wish You Were Here was their most complete/cohesive work much better than the moon album. That's not to say at all that it's their most interesting tho. I think as far as interesting goes, I think the cow album did it. :) all hail the cow.
Hardcore syd barrett fan here huh
Syd left in 68 ya dumb dumb

snip
Are you kidding... the guitar work from Gilmour is sublime, bar none.
90% sure it's because I just don't enjoy prog rock that much and barrett's floyd wasn't prog rock, it was psychedelic rock i've listened to all of pink floyd's albums and i can enjoy them, but the only one I am consistently amazed by is Piper I enjoy Waters' stuff but i haven't been able to get into anything after he left
I'm sad :( Still going to see David Gilmour in the Royal Albert hall though

One of their song that still haunts me is 'Set the controls for the heart of the sun'.

[editline]16th August 2015[/editline]
Syd left in 68 ya dumb dumb
not rly, i think syd was v much within the band spiritually, but after lodger watered them all down I think the finally settled into their own sound. i'm talking when meddle hit the board, that's when it started.
talk about longevity. whenever i hear pink floyd this is the first song to come to mind.
