Can't seem to find an answer in Fast Threads so I'll post it here. I plan on leaving my parents to live with my grandparents (If my grandpa's surgery doesn't go well) and would like to take my Honda Civic. But it is under my name and James' (Dad) name. Can I legally take it? It was given to me for graduation, and I sold my first car to help pay for it. Your knowledge on the subject would be much appreciated.
Who's James?
If it's under your name as well, then you can take it.

As long as your name is on the title than you can take it.
pics of the grandpa needed preferrably naked
. . .
it has your name on it, but i think part of the decision has to come from your dad because his name on it, especially if he helped pay for it. in other words, you have to get permission form your dad.
[editline]08:21PM[/editline] No automerge?
Oops, read it as being James' Dad who signed
Well, if it's a co-ownership between you and your dad then no. Your dad has to sign off on it to give you full ownership. [editline]01:33AM[/editline]
Fuck that shit, James is a douche
Well then taking the car would be illegal, sorry.
Guess I better just leave it then and move on without it
Which is unfortunate, and I feel bad for you. Although it's a smart idea, especially if you don't want your parents to know your leaving before-hand. [editline]9:38PM[/editline] Maybe you can get your grandmother to buy you a cheap car.
Steal it.

I plan on coming back the year after of sooner if he doesn't make it that long; to go to a JC
Fuck that shit, James is a douche
which one of you payed more for the car.
Steal it.
I'm on probation, so this would mean immediate jail time . . . so no [editline]06:41PM[/editline]
which one of you payed more for the car.
Parents
It is legal, but are you pretty much taking the car without permission of your parents and just leaving?
By law in most states, you can take the vehicle. Permission or not. make sure you check the vehicles title, and make sure YOUR NAME is on it. if it is, you are in the legal right. Will your parents bitch and moan if you take it?
Is it your name AND his or your name OR his. If it's AND then you should be pretty safe. If it's OR then you want to watch out. He could sell it without your approval and you'd be fuck out of luck.

Just check the laws where you live. Not that difficult.
Do you have a problem with your father or something? I don't see why he'd care if you took it.
Question is, would your dad goto the cops if you DID 'steal' it? How about you take it, if he asks for it back then consider it

Your dad's name is James? Do you happen do live in a vault under the surface of a post-apocalyptic wasteland?

If your parents won't report it stolen, you have nothing to worry about. If they report it stolen, the cops probably WILL fuck with you when they find it, but when they find your name on the title there's not much they can do about it. Best if the parents don't report it stolen.
