One of the most important first person shooter game ever made.
To be honest, I never played Quake. I just don't seem to be interested in it. Doom&Duke Nukem FTW.
Played this when I was 6 years old. Nostalg'd hard.
Quake was better than Doom imo.
Well the gaming industry has learned ONE thing from Quake. And that is: Brown = realism.
I always found Quake better and more important than Doom.
Last November I went 6 weeks without playing any games because the games coming out didn't appeal to me in the slightest. At the end of the 6 weeks I installed Quake and had so much fun, dat nostalgia.
I always found Quake better and more important than Doom.
Imo Wolfenstein 3D, Doom and Quake are each as important as each other. Each of them improved and drove forward so I don't think you can really say one of them did more for the genre than the other.
Ahh the nostalgia
Quake 1 is still fun as hell in both single and multiplayer.
I don't get why people compare Doom with Quake, they are a few years apart and they're made by the same developer.
This article got me to reinstall Quake again, take a trip down nostalgia lane. :v: (With DarkPlaces port and the Quake Revitalization Project for added excellence)
Reading this reminds me of playing Quake III deathmatch at school. Also reminds me of the unopened copy of Quake 2 I bought at a rummage sale not too recently. Wonder if I can download it someplace...
I still have my old quake CD from 1996.
this made me wonder, how do i install quake with windows 7?
I loved watching my dad play this when I was little. I should give it a try some day.
Me and my dad used to play Quake across our home network all the time.. I still have fond memories of yelling to family members not to pick up the phone because I was playing Quake online, back in the dialup days.
To be honest, I never played Quake. I just don't seem to be interested in it. Doom&Duke Nukem FTW.
Play it, it's really fun even by today's standards.
I played Quake last year for the first time, it was cool.
I used to play Quake in tandem with my big brother. One would control movement and the other mouse and shooting. It's pretty damn difficult but fun :v:
I know how the author feels. I was basicly in the same situation, the difference being, the game was Half-Life 2. Oh, yeah, and Quake is awesome. Still play it from time to time(my dad had an original copy, which i managed to grab. Good stuff).
Never played the first Quake. Quake II, however, was the first game I ever played. :colbert:
monster infighting was so fucking hilariously awesome both in quake I & II, i loved making a bunch of light guards fight a tank commander, they just don't make games like they used to.
What made Quake really great was the soundtrack, I played the game without it because the CD wouldn't play the music, hearing it so many years later I wish it did work, because Trent can fuck with your mind and being so young at the time it would have scared me more. Thats some sad shit if gaming made someone. Gamer since 2006 up in this bitch :smug:
I can't find my god damn Quake CD :argh: I can't find my Doom or Wolfenstein CD either :smithicide:
I was scared of those little monkey boss things.
I'll always be a Doom man, but there is no denying the brilliance and importance of Quake. I still remember the first time I played a Quake game, Quake II at my uncles house. So of course, my uncle was an absolute legend. Man those little dog things that literally sucked the blood out of you freaked the shit out of me.
