• Itching all over during excercise?
    9 replies, posted
I'm 15 years old, male, and I go the the gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a 30 minute workout with a personal trainer. The thing is, a few minutes into the excercise, my body becomes inexplicably itchy and the urge to scratch sometimes hinders my excercise. Similar itching also occurs when I jog. Any thoughts?
Heat eczema?
Are you taking pre-workout or any type of athlete vitamin? I tend to get itchy whenever I take any type of sup with high doses of beta-alanine and the such.
That happens when your blood starts circulating. Nothing to be worried of. Do you live in a cold climate? That also happens if I move quickly from cold to warm. For some reason I only ich if I start to walk for +10 minutes after being still, but if I run or do something else medium/high-intensity stuff I don't get ichy at all.
[QUOTE=Maucer;35884140]That happens when your blood starts circulating. Nothing to be worried of. Do you live in a cold climate? Its caused by irritation and the best thing I can suggest is before you start to workout, acclimatise your body to the temp you'll be working out in.
Skin irritation. This is caused either by you having dry skin and exposing it to a warm environment from cold or just plain environment temperature change. Put some lotion on that skin.
Also if you have a lot of body hair, sweat can get trapped and sort of fester.
I always feel this happening on my head, usually only for the first 10 minutes of working out though. shit is irritating af
This is normal. It's called "exercise-induced urticaria", a milder form of a very serious condition called "exercise induced anaphylaxis". Histamine is a vasodilator, and your vessels dilate to increase blood flow during exercise. If you get too much, too fast, it gets itchy- just like during an allergic reaction. You can take loratidine (Claritin)/cetirizine (Zyrtec) for it before you exercise to decrease the intensity. Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) also works, but can be sedating. If it's severe enough, you can combine 2 classes - as benadryl/loratidine/cetirizine are H1 blockers combined with some heartburn meds like - Cimetidine (Tagamet)/famotidine (Pepsid)- cause they are H2 blockers. You'll live, but it's annoying. It's more likely to show up with more drastic temperature differences
I've gotten that before too... back when I was fat. I would itch everytime after lifting and stuff. I think it's when you're not used to working out, the blood flow can be too much and itch like that. It went away for me and never happens anymore because I'm so used to working out, I think. But it also could be what Kamern said.
