I want to get into DJing, like turn tables and stuff. Can you guys tell me some good ones to look up?
Hey man, I made a thread like this not too long ago and got some nice replies. Feel free to take all the information from in there. :D http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=960570
Vestax PDX 2000 or 2300. They're pretty much the same thing except the 2300 has a digital readout on the pitch. I love these tables. they have a pitch range of +/- 60 as opposed to the +/- 8 with the technics. These aren't the most solid of tables buy by all means they are still bad ass in their own way. I've used these tables, and I'm a skratch DJ, so if anyone is gonna abuse a table or mixer it's gonna be me. but I've yet to break any of them. The cool thing about vestax is that they have better tracking than the technics. they have A.S.T.S. Anti-Skipping Tonearm System. It's pretty much like a spring that pulls the tone arm down. Numark TTX-1 USB turntables are pretty solid. They tend to get hot after like 2 hours. Very solid build, nice design, tight little turntable. has +/- 50 pitch and what i like about these is that you can go line or phono. I prefer to use line. they come with 2 tonearms; one straight, one S shaped. Very cool table, can't go wrong with it really. As far as mixers go..... Since all i do is skratch. I just have a basic 2 channel mixer with auxillary inputs. It's a tascam XS-8. It's super bad ass especially since i threw in the Innofader mod. It's pretty much the same thing as the Ecler HAK 360 and both of these mixers are better than the Rane TTM-56 (imo). Rane has a lot of hype and now they're trying to push the whole Serato thing. So now there's the Rane TTM-57 which has hookups for serato and video shit and crap like that, but I think that's all over rated. If you're just gonna mix. Have you considered "Controllerism". It's mixing using midi controllers instead of turntables and using effects from a program like ableton or reaktor to do effects. check it out:> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZGe0adjycc&feature=related and > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlBZpaLHRws all you need is midi controllers, You can buy your own or make your own, and ableton live. and ofcourse like with anything new you want to learn patience and practice. I'm gonna help you out. It's gonna be my good deed for the year. So you got any questions I'll answer them. I'm actually more helpful than people at guitar center. but I am gonna ask you....what are you trying to do exactly?
so, did any what i said help?
I DJ myself, and to be honest with you that's some sound advice from Larry; anyone looking to get in to DJing should really take a look at what Larry has said. I'd recommend going for Cheap-ish CDJ's if you are starting out, as Larry said; Numark CDJ's are a great piece of kit, if you are living in the UK, I'd consider buying this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Numark-CD-DJ-BOX-Complete-DJ-Decks-System-Setup-/170509158972?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Mixers&hash=item27b3234a3c#ht_1850wt_982 Great value for money and great for starting out. Remember this isn't the 'be all and end all'. Once you've purchased something you can always add and upgrade, you just need a starting block.
You could also consider midi controllers. The least expensive choice of the three, which is good if you just want to try it out. Prices can range from $150 to $1000 depending on the midi controller you're getting. These are the 3 most recommended beginners midi controllers. (No specific order) 1. Hercules RMX - It can be mapped to any program, comes with a version of virtual dj and is premapped for it. It has a built in soundcard which means you won't have to go out a buy any, and you could also use turntables with it in the future and get control vinyl. 2. Vestax VCI-100 - It can also be mapped for any program, comes with a versrion of traktor, and has a lot of support from a website called www.djtechtools.com which includes midi mappings, special editions of the vci-100, and modified vci-100's. This midi controller doesn't have a sound card so you would have to buy one separately. Recomended sound card would be a Native Instruments Audio DJ 2. VCI-100 goes for $500 new and the Audio DJ 2 goes for $100. Torq Xponent - Can be mapped to any program, comes with Torq and is premapped for it. Has a built in soundcard and has lights under every button, helps when playing at night or a club. This midi controller is really aimed at those who want to mix EDM. This midi controller goes for about $500 new. If you don't like the midi controllers and want to go with cdjs or turntables I suggest buying used. You can find some good used equipment for the price of some ok new gear. Just make sure everything is in working condition before you purchase. Hope this helped.
