• Iran violates sanctions, UN security council divided
UNITED NATIONS: The U.N. Security Council has refused to back a report by a panel of experts which unanimously concluded that Iran violated U.N. sanctions when it launched several ballistic missiles a year ago. Australia's U.N. Ambassador Gary Quinlan, who chairs the committee monitoring sanctions on Iran, did not identify which countries were opposed in his briefing to the council on Monday. But council diplomats, speaking on condition of anonymity because consultations were private, said Russia was most vocal in its opposition and was supported by China. Quinlan told the council that a number of council members backed the panel's view that Iran's launch of Shahab-1 and Shahab-3 missiles in a war-game exercise in July 2012 ``constituted a clear violation'' of sanctions, and therefore all U.N. member states ``should redouble efforts to implement ballistic missile-related sanctions on Iran.'' [...] According to the report and the diplomats, the United Arab Emirates sent a report on March 4 on the confiscation of shipments to Iran suspected of containing prohibited items; France reported on April 12 that a third state returned a fiber optic gyroscope to which can be used in missile guidance to France after the discovery that it was to be re-exported to Iran; and Singapore reported on June 6 that it seized a shipment destined for Iran of carbon fiber, which is strong, light-weight and can be used in the aerospace industry. Sweden reported on March 8 that an individual had been found guilty of exporting control valves _ a prohibited dual-use item _ and the United States on April 18 reported on court cases against two Iranian national accused of illegally exporting and attempting to export dual-use items to Iran, the report and diplomats said. So, what's the point of the UN?
The UNSC is the most utterly retarded idea
The UNSC is the most utterly retarded idea
It's hilarious how the superpowers wouldn't jump on it unless they had supreme decision control, which is against the entire point of the UN since no country is supposed to have too much power.
The UNSC is the most utterly retarded idea
How else are we supposed to fight the Covenant, genius?
So, what's the point of the UN?
The UN is not some strong-arm for the united states nor is it an independent military power. If some of the veto powers feel it's not in their interests to agree with the other veto powers, then they'll veto any decision that might otherwise be made. The sanctions on Iran are stupid anyways. Iran's leadership is backwards and rouge, but the sanctions are politically biased, and there are many other countries far more deserving of sanctions that are currently being supported with impunity by the same people who wish to see sanctions on Iran. (*cough* israel and uae)

Russia and China voted in the first place to add the sanctions, and again to add more
"guys they didn't do what we told them to do" "oh... okay..."
"guys they didn't do what we told them to do" "oh... okay..."
It's not like the sanctions aren't doing anything, with the central bank crunching hard on money, inflation way up, and medical shortages looming for a while now
-snip-
Hopefully they're successful with their missile programme.
Hopefully they're successful with their missile programme.
why why would you ever want this
why why would you ever want this
To put it simply, the USA doesn't want a power rising in the region that could threaten Israel. And I'm of the opinion that Israel needs to be cut down to size.
why why would you ever want this
Because America is the bad guys, and the bad guys have to fight the good guys, so that must mean Iran is the good guys.
why why would you ever want this
Why wouldn't I want that? Every country has a right to build missiles, unless you believe in world police.
Why wouldn't I want that? Every country has a right to build missiles, unless you believe in world police.
Yeah it's not like they're facing international sanctions against doing just such a thing Wait...
Yeah it's not like they're facing international sanctions against doing just such a thing Wait...
your point being?

And I'm of the opinion that Israel needs to be cut down to size.
You are of the opinion that the population of a country whose government you dislike should get nuked?
your point being?
A lot of people think Iran doesn't have a right to ballistic missiles. It might have to do something with funding various insurgencies. Or their very public, very belligerent foreign policies.
So, what's the point of the UN?
To write strongly worded letters to countries telling them that they're not nice, especially when they did that thing 5 years ago that everyone has forgotten about and is completely irrelevant.
You are of the opinion that the population of a country whose government you dislike should get nuked?
Archangel125 here, at work. Don't be ridiculous. Nukes are strictly a threat - It will make power in the Middle East more balanced, and make Israel think twice before pulling some of the shit they're infamous for. Nukes will stabilize the region and prevent war, and they're only dangerous in the hands of stateless extremist groups. Iran will know better than to wield them irresponsibly.
A lot of people think Iran doesn't have a right to ballistic missiles. It might have to do something with funding various insurgencies. Or their very public, very belligerent foreign policies.
Because the US never funded any insurgencies.
Because the US never funded any insurgencies.
Afghanistan during Soviet occupation?
Because the US never funded any insurgencies.
The US isn't under international sanctions to stop its missile program.
The US isn't under international sanctions to stop its missile program.
So? They're a world power, they take part in controlling the security council. No shit they aren't under international sanctions.
So? They're a world power, they take part in controlling the security council. No shit they aren't under international sanctions.
So the US hasn't exactly had 15:1 votes against it for sanctions either. While Iran has had the entire security council vote against it. They have a horrible track record and a propensity to use those weapons if they develop them. That is why the security council has voted against. That is why nobody wants Iran to have these weapons. That is why I will tell you again, fuck Iran's missile program.
Why wouldn't I want that? Every country has a right to build missiles, unless you believe in world police.
no country has the right to build nuclear missiles

You're trying to deny aspiring missile designers their dreams, you are denying their hopes and dreams. I don't care what you think of their missile programme, I wish them great success. [editline]20th July 2013[/editline]
no country has the right to build nuclear missiles
Who said nuclear missiles? Iran does not have nukes.
Every country has the right to build ballistic missiles.
North Korea thanks you for defending the rights of nations to infringe the rights of other nations.
You're trying to deny aspiring missile designers their dreams, you are denying their hopes and dreams.
Are you fucking serious
