So I almost ran this guy over today. My fault or his?

Before I start, I live in the UK.
I was driving along today just come out of a 60mph limit and just going over a crossing doing about 40mph, this guy on his bike decides it would be a good idea to start crossing (the light was on green) he was about half way across the road and showed no signs of stopping, so I slammed on my brakes come to a sharp stop and he continues casually across the road, didn't even stop. Naturally I shouted several expletives at him out the window and carried on going.
I park up in Tesco about 2 mins away from where this incident occured and the guy comes up to me and says "you're an idiot mate I was gona go behind you, bet you only been driving for 2 mins ain't you" to which I replied "how was I supposed to know you were gona go behind me, for all I knew, you thought I was gona stop or something, the idea of a crossing is that you wait for the little man to turn green before you cross, not cross and expect the drivers to know what you're doing. Oh and by the way I've been driving 2 years not 2 mins." He then rode off without saying much else.
So was it my fault for my lack of psychic ability/judgement or his fault for crossing the road when he's not supposed to?
TL;DR: I nearly ran some guy over when he was crossing the road when he wasn't supposed to, he blames me for it.
This is an interesting thread.
He is on a damn bike... all accidents that he is involved in are his own fault.
Isn't it kind of obvious? Even if you did run him over, it would be his fault.
Sounds like he was being ignorant of you. His fault.
Fucking bikers on the road.
That is all.

Most Bike accidents are the fault of the guy in the Car not looking properly.
The road is for bikers too.
Unless its a Cycling bike.
If the light was green, he had first right to cross. If it was red for him, he should have stopped.
The light for me was green, and it was still green when I took off again after stopping.

Yeah it was.

bikers are the MOST dangerous people on the road...
they are more of a danger to themselves than anything anyway.

Bikers are the most dangerous things on the road to themselves, in the case of a one vehicle crash.
But in the case of a 2 vehicle crash its almost always the car that is to blame.
society's fault
In america, you are supposed to get OFF the bike, stakeboard or whatever when crossing the road because if you fall you are a danger to vehicles.
Bikes can also not use a lane of traffic and must use the bike lane.
Bikers have the same right as motorists in my state, so I don't know.
it might be a bicycle anyway :smug:

Some car drivers are complete idiots when it comes to driving, they aren't perfect. :downs:
Everyone has an Equal right to use the road and it's footpaths.

and for the record we're talking about one of these http://kroma.co.uk/original/cyclist-on-oxford-road-by-the-church.jpg
Not a motorbike.
Should have ran him over then see how he feels about it.
And you had right of way so he was at fault.
If it's a crossing he has first rights.
Not when the light is green for me.
If it's a crossing he has first rights.
Only on a zebra crossing.
You should have run him over, then sued him for damages to your car.
Wait, there's lights at a crossing? UK is weird.
the idea is the pedestrians push a button, letting the system know there are people waiting to cross the road, when the road is clear it will signal for traffic to stop, people cross, and when it's clear the light will show green again.
He was on a bicycle, which is classified as a vehicle. He was completely at fault because vehicles should not be using crosswalks.
Well you had green light so it was totally that bikers fault.
Don't dwell on it these things happen, besides no one got hurt and you might saved his life because you infact did stop.
Someone else might not have seen him and would've run him over.
Besides that guy who was behind you obviously had no idea what was going in the front.
The rules technically state that people using crossings have right of way. There's just the problem that...
a) The cyclist abused that right by being bloody stupid.
b) This is a stupid rule. On one side, you have someone in control of a ton-heavy lump of steel going at 60 kph. On the other, you have a guy on a bike. If he rides into the road, who has better control over the situation? The cyclist, of course.
I've been driving for 2 years not 2 minutes!
A+ comeback.

Only the vehicles using the road have right of way, unless it's a zebra crossing in which case pedestrians have right of way and vehicles must stop for them. However, this was not a zebra crossing. The traffic lights were green for me, which means I had right of way.
Next time, keep going.
