The South African-born actress told Sky News that "every aspect" of her life has become "fodder" for a brand of journalism that exists "in a dark room".
She said: "I don't (Google myself) - that's my saving grace.
"When you start living in that world, and doing that, you start feeling raped."

Asked whether she meant to express the sentiment as strongly as that, she replied: "Well, when it comes to your son and your private life. Maybe it's just me.
"Some people might relish in all that stuff but there are certain things in my life that I think of as very sacred and I am very protective over them.
"I don't always win that war but as long as I don't have to see that stuff or read that stuff or hear that stuff then I can live with my head in a clear space, which is probably a lot healthier than living in that dark room."
She is not the first person to draw parallels between media intrusion and rape.
In 2010 the actress Kristen Stewart was forced to issue an apology after claiming that seeing photographs of herself was like "looking at someone being raped".
Kate McCann, the mother of missing child Madeleine McCann, told the Leveson Inquiry into press ethics that she felt "mentally raped" when a tabloid newspaper published her private diary, in which she expressed her thoughts and feelings about the disappearance of her daughter.
Theron, who won an Oscar for her role in 2003 movie Monster, is in London to promote her new film A Million Ways To Die In The West, in which she stars opposite Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane.
Oh fuck her. She really compared the torture of rape to being stalked by the press. That's hard to believe.

Both can cause emotional distress, and both depend highly on the individual.
Honestly I can see where she's coming from, being stalked by people who get paid for invading your privacy can be pretty fuckin' stressful.
I mean okay maybe her comparison wasn't the most ably handled analogy ever but it has some ground.
Oh fuck her. She really compared the torture of rape to being stalked by the press. That's hard to believe.
Tabloid newspapers prey upon actors and other famous people.
Every single little thing they do in their lives is broadcasted to the world, I don't know what your preferrences are, but I sure wouldn't like it.
Sure, there's the good with the bad, but it's still not neccessary.
It's not rape though. Not even close. Being stalked does suck. But being coerced into sex is truly horrible.
Comparison is not equation. I can pretty clearly see why she'd make this comparison, honestly.
It's not rape though.
Apples aren't oranges. But they're still both fruit and you can compare them in a number of ways.
Some people seem to miss that a comparison is not saying that two things are exactly the same. Being stalked by paparazzi is probably a pretty violating experience, so it can be compared to rape. It's not rape, but nobody's saying that journalism is literally rape. It's a comparison that highlights commonalities and should make people think about what it's like to really have even the most private aspects of your life invaded by an unsympathetic media.
You really cannot compare something as serious/devastating/utterly crippling as RAPE to media intrusion. That's just fucked up.
We've a book called a dictionary and words called synonims. Try either of those before you pull these stunts.
I feel like modern media is 95% semantics. Case in point.
tbh i can see it
rape is horrible yeah
but when you're stalked by the media everything you do and will do will be used against you, so basically you become paranoid about just about everything you say and do or else something you say gets blown out of proportion and you are now hated by everyone, and you no longer ever have privacy(can't even fap without someone watching)
and when you're raped you also become paranoid about just about everything and you're afraid to tell people about it afterwards(which is why its reported so little) because you're afraid of being judged
[editline]1st June 2014[/editline]
you're also judged and when you read negative articles of yourself that's actually pretty awful, you'll feel like shit and you'll also feel like many people feel that way about you
and criticism is laid on pretty heavy for people tracked by the press, none of it is constructive.

:v:
You should probably also check the dictionary definition of compare. That is, noting similarities between two objects, not claiming two objects to be identical.
I can see why she'd make the comparison.
I don't think I could deal with people stalking me every single day with cameras in my face, stalking my loved ones, or taking pictures of me from afar when I feel like I'm in a private place.
I see where she's coming from
Imagine being a woman walking down a street being harassed by horny men who you feel unsafe around and just want to get away from as fast as possible
and then imagine those same dudes with cameras
yeah you can say "it comes with the territory" but nobody deserves to be harassed and have every aspect of their lives poked and prodded by the public. even celebs deserve privacy
It's not rape though. Not even close. Being stalked does suck. But being coerced into sex is truly horrible.
Don't take her words literaly. Its pretty obvious what she means.
fuck the modern paparazzi
people just shouldn't compare things to rape it's never going to end well. paparazzi are scum though and i can understand how someone might say something they don't really mean under the amount of stress and frustration those fuckwits cause
