• Waking Life: Probably one of the most thought provoking films I've ever seen

Waking Life follows an unnamed character though his odd lucid dream. In his dream he listens to various people talk about their theories and musings on subjects like reality, free will, and dreaming. These conversations he engages in are very interesting to listen to, and are always changing topics so the film never gets boring. Every single scene is very memorable and significant. A thing about the film that you'll probably notice right away is the animation style. The film uses a technique called rotoscoping, which is when they film it in live action, then animate over the frame. The animation enhances the dream-like feel of the movie and makes it a joy to look at. The film isn't for everyone though. It's not a very plot driven movie, and the conversations can be hard to follow if you have a short attention span. If you're a dreamer, this movie is essential to watch. Some scenes. 1st video did not make any sense.
I remember watching this as a kid and I was kinda scared, I saw the part where some guy burned himself and left.
I think I've seen this, I think...
This is an amazing movie. We watched it in our World Views class senior year of high school. I've been meaning to watch it again.
Actually I haven't seen this, but I will tonight.
The light-switch thing was really useful. It helped me find a consistent anchor to reality in my dreams. Not a light-switch, mind you. There are never light-switches in my dreams. But it the rare dreams that I am granted potential lucidity, I always remember to look out for things out of the ordinary.
Very cool movie. The way it was made is cool too. They filmed it, and then drew over each frame, giving it its realistic-animation appearance.
Not very good rotoscoping, but it's older so I guess it can slide. [editline]10:14PM[/editline] Also I keep wanting to jump into the conversations. I don't think I could watch this without ending up talking to myself. [editline]10:19PM[/editline]
1st video did not make any sense.
It made perfect sense. Existential crisis time.
Watching it right now, this movie reminds me of a LSD trip I had once.
I don't think I could stand to watch an entire movie in that annoying and jumpy animation style
1st video did not make any sense.
Yes it does. [editline]12:42AM[/editline] It was even explained well.
Well, that was a very intresting movie. 9/10 -1 because the animation made me sick and dizzy.
That guy in the last video was a protester in A Scanner Darkly, I think.
This sounds like my kind of movie.
I remember seeing this movie on hbc a really long time ago.
That guy in the last video was a protester in A Scanner Darkly, I think.
Yeah, Alex Jones. He's a nut IRL [editline]06:41AM[/editline] Also apparently this movie is the same director as A Scanner Darkly.
I love this movie. I've watched it dozens of times, it's very relaxing.
Watched it late at night on Film4 once, Was good, i watched a large portion of it but changed channel because Dark Angel came on.
Waking Life: a favorite of pseudointellectual teens everywhere. Rate box if I hit too close to home.
Waking Life: a favorite of pseudointellectual teens everywhere.
Along with Fight Club.
Yeah. The movie is very literal for such a subject. I did, however, LOVE A Scanner Darkly, by the same director.
definitely one of my favourite films. Fucking love the soundtrack, too; been listening to it constantly for a few days :h: [editline]07:46PM[/editline] My favourite part is the one with the man and the woman in bed.
Along with Fight Club.
Along with Donnie Darko. [editline]04:18PM[/editline] But Waking Life's better than both of them imo.
Pretentious. I think the person who made it just sat a few philosophy classes and recorded the conversations he had. [editline]09:43PM[/editline]
Waking Life: a favorite of pseudointellectual teens everywhere.
Pretty much this.
Donnie Darko, Fight Club and Waking Life are all great films :S People dismiss philosophy as pretentious so fucking easily. Just because its put into a media that's more accessable it doesn't detract from the actual content.
I read the title as "Wanking Life".
