I've got a Windows 98 machine that makes a similar mechanical noise (from the computer itself), but no TADAA! Very cool. Should I keep it so I can start it up in 2025 and laugh at it, or chuck it?
Watching that reminded me of this

Can anyone tell me what that grinding sound you hear then the PC's loading is? It's one of the sounds from my child hood, and I never understood what was making it.
I used to think it was because my old, shitty computer literally worked using gears and cogs and stuff.

Muh MS-DOS 6 PC booting.
It has a 100Mbit Ethernet NIC, I use it for IRC occasionally.
I think it is the hard drive.
My computer started doing that same noise as well after 2 years. I absolutely love that noise.

Its the hard drive. Funny that my first computer sounded exactly like our coffee machine.
Humongous Entertainment games!
Dude you got a dell!
I always loved the sound old computers made while running. No idea why though.
Positive association. I remember when we'd get on these and play simple computer games. That's where I learned Ctrl + Esc!
Sounds like a fucking jet engine compared to my current computer.
That thing sounds like a fighter jet taking off
I LOVE the noise that floppy drives make when you boot.

$2500 brand new from Radio Shack in 1993.
I still have it in mint condition.
Ah that whiny hard drive motor noise... I used to love the startup seek sound of the old western digital caviar drives

First computer we ever had in my home was a computer a lot like this although it was running windows 95. I remember this was before the safety power switch and the real pain in the ass was the power switch on our computer stuck out from the front of the case. The amount of times I had accidentally bumped into it and shut the computer off. And since it wasn't the safety switch I would lose everything I was doing. :suicide:
It was like this switch but it wasn't sunk in.

This computer has the same deal but at least it was sunk into the case a little. For some reason that little switch is the fondest memory of my first computer...

i wish computers still had cool-ass mechanical switches
My computer is nearly silent, but my old one had a messed up fan in addition to the regular old-computer noises.
It sounded like animals being ground up while mating
Watching this made me want my first computer back.

You could wire your own possibly, it just takes extra work to put it in
Love how the startup noise is like "Ta-da!!" as if it's impressed with itself that it actually started up.
I guess computers were still new and wonderous back in those days though.
It's fun that that startup sound still exists in Windows today. Though with Vista it's been updated.
i remember in primary school when everyone logged into the computers all you could here was the XP start up theme on full volume flooding the whole class
There seems to be a cat stuck in your computer.
I'm going to find all the old computers my dad used to run and start them up just so I can hear what sounds they make. I'm also really curious as to what he was running in the 90's even got a few sun machines around :P
