Cancelling Alan Wake PC Version Not Our Decision, Says Remedy

Finnish developers Remedy have been talking at GDC about the challenges of creating an entirely new engine for Alan Wake. Before Alan Wake, Remedy had specialised in PC-only releases with Death Rally, Max Payne and Max Payne 2. The Max Payne games were eventually ported to consoles by Rockstar. An exclusivity deal with Microsoft put an end to the PS3 version of the game. Later, the PC version was also cancelled.
The reasons for the PC cancellation weren’t discussed in the presentation, but CVG caught up with Remedy boss Markus Maki after the event to ask him about the decision. He said “I can’t really discuss that,” adding “I will say that it wasn’t a technological call. And it wasn’t made in Finland” – where Remedy are based.
So it was MS, and it wasn't due to technology either. Shows again that MS wants to shift people away from PC and to the Xbox.
That's because they can earn more by having people buy their console + accessories and monthly xbox live gold memberships, than having them "just" buy their latest OS
It's dirty business (from a users POV) but legal business nonetheless.
And I also forgot about their pricing on DLC's and Microsoft points as currency for most things you're buying online for their console.
That's a shame, I recently got an Xbox 360 and Alan Wake came with it. Easily one of the best games I've ever played, it sucks that it's exclusive to the 360.
oh dear not alan wake whatever will i do with my life
microsoft are a bunch of cuties
Alan Wake was the shit, that game was a total headfuck and DLC turned the part of my brain that handles reality and logic to soup.
10/10 would soup again.
Oh man I really wanted to play that and I wasn't even aware there was going to be a PC port
Oh well I guess
Big surprise there
can't say I'm surprised, microsoft and all
Hopefully the possible sequel will be on the PC too...
How can there be a sequel? [sp]Wake got free, he saved Alice and the dark presence got wasted by the clicker.
Oh no wait, didn't he start typing a second book at the end of the DLC called "Return"?[/sp]
EDIT: Holy fuck I just realised how cripplingly awful that must have been to read thanks to my tiredness, fixed now.

My guess Microsoft's excuse will be along the lines of "PC gaming is dieing."
Yeah sure PC gaming is "dieing"
Heretics are ruining everything for the master race, again.

I should probably get the DLC because the ending of the game itself seemed like quite a cliffhanger/unhappy ending.

Do it, the DLC is really good, rounds off the story nicely.
I remember the rush I got off this game, running like fuck with my touch almost running out of power. Am easily scared.
I have to admit after borrowing a friends 360 and renting the game I wasn't all that impressed, the gameplay was just a slog to get to the next bit of story. Still a shame Microsoft decided to shaft pc users I think its the sort of game that pc gamers are much more likely to buy than console users.
I dislike how Microsoft is gimping their competition. Heck, I'm fairly sure the performance rape in Dead Rising 2 caused by GFWL is deliberate.
At first Alan Wake looked awesome (back when it was coming to PC). Then it disappeared from the radar for a year or two, then returned and looked like shit. I bet my ass that during that the disappearance was due to Microsoft forcing Remedy to make it on 360 and therefore they had to rework nearly every thing to dumb it down for the 360 hardware (it's very probably that Remedy might have considered going PC only when they realised the game they were making wouldn't work on 360, until MS came in and forced them, that is).
I'll never understand why microsoft want to kill what they essentially created.

Money that they get from Xbox Live subs?
I'll never understand why microsoft want to kill what they essentially created.
Because they make a hell of a lot more profit out of xbox gaming.
Surprisingly Alan Wake was a pretty good game, the ending was a bit of a mindtwist. I didn't get the DLC for it, if anyone wants to PM me what happened in them I'll be thankful.
Not really relevant but I guess this also means I can just forget about Fable 3 ever coming out on the PC.

No, Fable 3 is coming, didn't you hear how Microsoft said how committed they were to PC gaming?
Every year, for like the past 5 years.
:smug:
Ugh, another reason to talk shit to my xbox 360 each time I glance at it.

It makes me wonder why console players don't realize that they are paying out the ass.
That's a shame, this game was quite good, story and game-play wise

Yeah fuck you Microsoft. If it weren't for you, we'd have this.
