Fox’s decision to hire Mark Millar as a creative consultant on their Marvel properties is a win-win for the studio and fans. For the business side of things, he’ll get to work with talent including Bryan Singer, Matthew Vaughn, James Mangold and Josh Trank to create a cohesive universe shared by the X-Men and the upcoming reboot of Fantastic Four.
For the fans however, Millar will happily and openly talk about things the studio may not want him talking about just yet. First he hinted at a Fantastic Four and X-Men crossover down the line, and now, he’s teasing what moviegoers will see in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Director James Mangold is currently shooting The Wolverine with star Hugh Jackman, and as we speak, Jane Goldman, Simon Kinberg and Matthew Vaughn are putting together the screenplay for the series’ next installment, X-Men: Days of Future Past, which aims to redefine, and potentially relaunch the franchise. Production is being scheduled to begin early next year in order to meet a July 26, 2014 release date.
When Bryan Singer confirmed the rumors that X-Men: First Class 2 would be indeed be based on Days of Future Past, he guardedly admitted that it would ambitiously tap into the much larger X-Men universe and blow it up, so to speak, in order to compete with the larger-scale events and crossovers we’re seeing from Marvel Studios with The Avengers and the six confirmed followup films.
In chatting with SFX magazine, Millar – who’s spending a lot of time on the set of Kick-Ass 2 – briefly discussed Matthew Vaughn’s plans for the next X-Men movie which begins shooting early next year.
“Vaughn is going for a big sci-fi style thing with X-Men: Days of Future Past.”
He described Days of Future Past as “X-Men meets The Terminator,” and continued, saying that for fans of the books, it’s “no spoiler” to reveal that the First Class sequel will explore an apocalyptic future.
“You’ve got robots, you’ve got time travel, you’ve got superheroes – it’s got everything in one film… Cost-wise it’s going to go up, and ambitious-wise it’s gone up. But Vaughn can handle it. Vaughn made Kick-Ass for $28 million.”
The story finds the X-Men visited by a time-traveling Kitty Pryde with dire warnings of a future timeline in which Xavier's team failed to stop Magneto and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants from assassinating Senator Robert Kelly. As a result, Kitty's future is one in which most of the X-Men have been murdered and mutants reside in brutal internment camps. Around the time of the X-Men: First Class release, Vaughn shared his idea to incorporate the assassination of John F. Kennedy into the sequels story, with Magento controlling the bullet. That notion may very well find its way into the sequel, given that an assassination is a crucial component of the comic book storyline.

You mean a movie based off a storyline revolving around giant walking KKK robots actually has the giant walking KKK robots? Who knew!
Though i hope they look good, i dont think they'd look right in their comic look, the one in the x-men origins game looked good though.
the x-men animated series from the 90's is gonna be hard to beat tbh
So they're actually going to adapt this to the big screen?

Fuck the knicks.
Id rather have an Age of Apocalypse movie than Days of a Future Past.
If people are doing alternate universe movies, while were at it can we get a Dark Knight Returns movie?

But yeah, you're probably referring to a live-action adaptation of TDKR.
If they approached it in the same way in which the Sin City movie was approached(keeping the visual style of the source material, translating the source material to the screen word-for-word without watering it down or making pointless changes, ideally having Miller himself involved with the creative process to a degree) I'd pretty much sell my kidney for it.

Yeah I meant a live action one.
But the animated one is bloody brilliant.

Wasn't that the entire plotline (minus sentinels) of X-men 3?
