Xbox One was the top selling console in the US last month
Market research firm NPD has now recorded a full month of console sales for the PS4 and Xbox One in the US, and it's revealing today that Microsoft’s latest console topped the sales charts for the month of December. Microsoft has long dominated with the Xbox 360 in the US, and it appears that healthy stocks of the Xbox One have helped the company take the edge during the all important holiday season. Microsoft’s Xbox One sold 908,000 units in December, alongside 643,000 sales of the Xbox 360. Both of Microsoft's consoles topped the charts in the US for each generation.
Sony is selling a good deal more PS4s overall, though, and the PS3 is doing surprisingly well (all from VGchartz, so take it with a grain of salt). Microsoft might've made a mistake focusing so much on North America, though I suppose they wanted to keep dominating that market.
This really kind of shows that most consumers don't care what the console does, they just buy it because it has the Xbox name on it. It's pretty terrible because the Xbone could have stayed the same and may have still have sold a ton, sure it would likely sell less but it will still sell a lot.

Everyone is a mindless sheep of a consumer but me!
This is murica! We don't want no damn Chinese commie PS4.
on another note, I'm kind of annoyed the Xbox One hasn't launched in Panama. You see PS4s in every tech store, and for not such a high price in comparison to the US - 450-500$. Better than I expected.

And people aren't just buying a Sony Playstation or Nintendo Wii U because it's a Playstation or Wii U? This kind of logic is really stupid. People will buy whatever they think is best or simply what seems to provide the best value. While the Wii, PS and Xbone demographics aren't exactly the same, I don't think you'll find a big difference in ignorance between the three.

Bullshit. I bought it because it's a multitasking console that has the launch titles that look the best to me, and I'm almost certain that the majority felt the same way. Nobody's going to buy the more expensive console if they think it's worse.
The Xbox One was the top selling console of the month in the US.
The PS4 continues to sell in 39 more regions across the world.
People really need to stop writing up articles on misrepresented or unimportant sales data.

Why unimportant or misinterpreted?
It's not misinterpreted, the title clearly says "top selling console in the US"
And it's not unimportant, the US is one of the biggest and most important markets for consoles.
Additionally, while both consoles have sold a similar amount of units, the PS4 is available in 48 countries so far, while the Xbox One only in 18. Neither of them being available in Japan.

The launch titles are probably as good as it's gonna get though. In the long run, I'm pretty certain that Sony will have the best exclusives. Microsoft will most likely focus on non-gaming related things for the most part, and when people want a new exclusive, they'll just throw in another Halo.

To be fair, both launch libraries weren't stellar.
Let's not make this into a war, but nearing the end of the PS3 lifespan, we saw more and higher-quality exclusives, while the 360 was getting nothing.
UPDATE: PS4 still has no games
UPDATE: PS4 still has no games
Meanwhile, Xbone is unable to play most "next-gen" games in 1080P native.
What is this, 2006?
UPDATE: PS4 still has no games
Because Ryse is an all time classic.

yeah i'm not buying a PS4 until this is available at the very least.
what a lackluster launch line up for both consoles, but the PS4 wins the lackluster award here.

The only next gen game I'm looking forward to is Titanfall. Maybe Project Spark.

Both were equally meh imo.
I'm probably not even gonna get a console this gen to be honest.

Oh, what I meant was there's a new article on XBO / PS4 sales every other day and they usually have wild titles prematurely concluding one console a "winner".
I wasn't making a stab at this article in particular.
The US is a big market for sure, but even with the XBO holding December in the US the PS4 managed to outsell the XBO by another 741,224 units.
Media outlets really like to ignore the impact of other territories, which are usually the bulk of sales in the long-term.

Article says PS4 is in 52 and Xbox One is in 13.

I have never noticed any difference, save for original Xbox games. And I play on a 42".
[editline]16th January 2014[/editline]
I still hope to get a Wii U this gen, those are sexy
well it's no surprise considering xbones are actually available in stores while PS4s are like looking for the ark of the covenant
titan fall looks cool
I thought x1 was dumb before, but since revoking most shitstuff, I don't have an opinion. Most of my friends are getting/have x1's, though, so I'm gonna go with that.
Sigh... Another war...
Can't we just enjoy our fucking consoles?! Why argue?
While I of course agree that XBOXONE has more games at the moment, I know that the PS4 will make a comeback later on.
And, to be honest, I have been a sony guy. But I don't mind Microsoft, really.
So can we all hold hands and move on?
Xbone sold well only because of Call of Duty Ghost. And the fact that people love to pay for monthly subscription but even that no longer apply since Playstation also charge online multiplayer now through PSPlus

Yup, it's pretty ridiculous seeing that the OP is starting to get overwhelmed with dumb ratings just for announcing which console did the best. If the PS4 moved the most units we'd never hear the end of it.
If I was to get a new console, tbh I'd want a xbox one because of its media features and software, ps4 doesn't appeal to me
