Gotta get in fast before the witty posters get a silly title.
If hes "appointed by god" then wouldn't resignation be some kind of blasphemy?
If hes "appointed by god" then wouldn't resignation be some kind of blasphemy?
Not if he fired him.
Maybe he got involved in a sex scandal?
If hes "appointed by god" then wouldn't resignation be some kind of blasphemy?
If he's appointed by god he can just say it's not blasphemy and that would make it not blasphemy.
Resigning is going against gods wishes I hope the WBC picket outside the Vatican or something.
Maybe he realized god isn't real.
But we really need more information. Could it be health problems?

Hardly.
It's normal and expected the pope dies in the position.
Good riddance you antiquated bigoted fuck

this is something big
this means he wont have diplomatic immunity anymore i sure hope he gets arrested as fuck for covering up for so many pedophiles
Maybe he got involved in a sex scandal?
I could see that happening. He has already been implicated in coverups
BBC has at least this tidbit up but not even them know anything more.

Pope Benedict in shock resignation
LIVE: Pope says he will resign Live
The Pope is to resign at the end of this month in an entirely unexpected development, the Vatican has confirmed.
The 85-year-old became Pope Benedict XVI in April 2005 following the death of John Paul II.
The reasons behind the head of the Catholic Church's surprise resignation have yet to emerge.
Resignations from the papacy are not unknown, but this is the first in the modern era, which has been marked by pontiffs dying while in office.
At 78, the former Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was one of the oldest new popes in history when elected.
He took the helm as one of the fiercest storms the Catholic Church has faced in decades - the scandal of child sex abuse by priests - was breaking.

I thought this was a joke thread, but then I clicked on that BBC link.

Well it's not really a scandal unless anyone finds out.
Maybe he's being blackmailed.

It could be the cardinals have got wind of something and are forcing him to resign in case anything leaks
Let's hope the next one isn't a complete bass-ackwards nazi.
Hey, it can happen! There's non-batshit christians out there! Just... Probably none running for pope.
Maybe he fell in love with a lady and decided to throw aside the papal shackles and follow his heart
Resigning is going against gods wishes I hope the WBC picket outside the Vatican or something.
They are in luck, their RV is not built for travel by sea.

Problem is that to be eligible for the position of pope, you already have to be a cardinal, and majority of cardinals has to vote for you.
That's like hoping America will elect an openly Russia-friendly president.
Good riddance you antiquated bigoted fuck
the old fuck to replace him is probably just as bad.
I wonder when conspiracy theorists'll resurrect Saint Malachy's Prophecy of the Popes.
Woah...
I wonder when conspiracy theorists'll resurrect Saint Malachy's Prophecy of the Popes.
Well, if it will be ever to get interesting, it's now, because it says the next one will be the last, the Rome will be destroyed, and it will be "the end".
Such a huge loss to all of us.
Maybe he got involved in a sex scandal?
I hate to imagine Emperor Palpatine over here nude and thrusting

Well, we can at least hope for a less-bad pope. Someone like John Paul II. At least he wasn't a nazi who openly wished AIDS upon Africans and death to homosexuals and such.
