Where to start this off...
Lets see, I have had a life changing experience. 9 days in a little country called Costa Rica.
For those of you who don't know, Costa Rica is just south of Nicaragua, and north/northwest of Panama.
Costa Rica touches both the Caribbean and the pacific.
Costa Rica is inhabited by Mostly Spanish speaking people. However on the Caribbean side, they speak a language that is a mix of Spanish, English, and french.
Costa Rica, thought a poor country as far as wealth goes, is rich in culture and lifestyle.
I visited this country for 9 days over spring break as part of a small group from my school. From March 26th to April 4th we traveled all across the country doing Community service, and learning the culture. We Zip-lined, we White water rafted, We hiked, We painted a school, we helped locals in any tasks they may need, and we, best of all, bonded with our fellow classmates. Whom, all of which by the way, were only acquaintances to me... Not friends.
This post, however is not about my experience there, more the knowledge on life I picked up. Costa Ricans all follow the same thing: Pura Vida, or Pure of Life. Pura Vida is not just a saying, its a greeting, its a lifestyle.
In basically means " taking life easy ". The people there believe that humanity tends to Live to Work. When they should be working to Live, if that makes sense.
This really got me thinking. Its true. Come here to my home, San Diego, CA. People wake up at 6:30. get to work by 7:30-8. Come home at 6 pm. get behind the tv or computer screen. On the weekends, they stay behind the tv or computer screen.
This was my life...basically. And I really realized that I was throwing my life away. I wasn't living. Though Life in Costa Rica for 9 days was loaded with fun, I didn't need to go rafting every week to have fun. I just needed to enjoy Life.
So I came back, With the group of Acquaintances, which are now all my best friends, and we started Living. I have been on the computer for 3 hours since my trip. 3 hours total. Not a day. And let me tell you. Life is good. Though sure, Work is required, I cant stop that. But when I get home. I relax outside, in my backyard with my family. I just talk with them. I don't lock myself in my room. I don't Sit in front of the tv, not alone at least.
We have dinner together at the table, not separate.
On the weekends, Im going to be hanging out with my friends. Today for example, No work or school, We went down to the beach and just laid in the sand and talked. We didn't even swim. we just enjoyed it. watched people walk around... We played a bit of soccer on the sand, that was all.
The day before, we sat around my friends car at a park and just talked and laughed about anything and everything... for 4 Hours. 4 hours! and I enjoyed every second of it.
Ive learned to love my friends and everything about them. I've learned to Love my parents and family. This goes to all you kids out there. You mom asks you to take out the trash... Just fucking do it. Seriously. It seems like a PITA at the time, but you have to realize. The time you spend fighting it doubles the amount of time it takes to get it done, and it also pisses the parents off.
Conclusion!!!!!:
All I can say to Facepunch is, look up more on Pura Vida. Learn how to live it. IF YOU CAN, visit Costa Rica! Experience it first hand. Enjoy life. You dont need to argue with everyone about little things, like chores. Just do them, so what? You have roughly 80 years to live. maybe more. an hour of dish washing, half hour of home work, 10 minutes of taking out all the trash. It wont kill you. It wont suck up your precious time... because that's one thing you are rich in. Time. So what are you waiting for, Start spending time rather than saving it. You have nothing you need to save for.
OMG you reminded me to live life to the FULLEST! Thanks for making this thread TheRipper12! I hope you got a good grade!
Pura Vida and hakuna matata Facepunch! XD
My high school did the exact same trip to Costa Rica two years ago.
Sounds really fucking nice. Just let me get all the achievements in Garry's Mod and I'll try it.

The gullible tourist hook.
The gullible tourist hook.
You might think so. But I the tourist hook here was more on the caribbean side. The beaches there were very tourist filled.
Pura vida is actually legit as far as their culture goes.
How the fuck am I gonna go to the beach if it's cold as fuck, the beach is like 30 kilometers away, I'm not old enough to drive, I can't figure out the public transport system, etc. etc.
Where else are me and my friends supposed to go? The mall? We go there. Lots of times. It's getting boring. I like going to museums and stuff but they are aaaalways busy. "I have to study that day, going somewhere that day", etc.
So there is NOTHING else to do rather than spending my weekends and vacation behind the computer screen. If sitting on my ass for days on end isn't taking it easy, I don't know what is.

Hell, I sometimes engaged in an activity called "Póvoa-explore" which is basically roaming around the city aimlessly checking out every street and stuff, doing fuck all but walking. But that activity is completed since I have walked every street in the city.
I also hate every sport that involves a ball.
So tell me; what is there else to do? My friends are always busy, and going out is only truly fun with friends, so there is nothing to do. I don't like spending hours and hours on this chair, but it's not like I have a whole lot of options.
ITT: OP discovers friends.
OP you need to get out more
