Scott Derrickson to Direct ‘Deus Ex’ Feature From Iconic Video Game

CBS Films announced today that Scott Derrickson (Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose) will direct the screen adaptation of the iconic Square Enix video game Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Derrickson will also write the screenplay for the film with C. Robert Cargill (Sinister). Roy Lee and Adrian Askarieh are attached to produce the film with John P. Middleton serving as Executive Producer.
Set in the near future, when dramatic advances in science, specifically human augmentation, have triggered a technological renaissance, Deus Ex: Human Revolution follows Adam Jensen, an ex-SWAT security specialist who must embrace mechanical augments in order to unravel a global conspiracy.
"Deus Ex is a phenomenal cyberpunk game with soul and intelligence,” said Derrickson, who continued, “By combining amazing action and tension with big, philosophical ideas, Deus Ex is smart, ballsy, and will make one hell of a movie. Cargill and I can't wait to bring it to the big screen."
The Deus Ex franchise was originally introduced in June 2000. Its latest entry, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, launched to universal acclaim in 2011, ranking #1 across global sales charts and earning over 100 industry awards. Developed by Eidos-Montréal and published by Square Enix, Deus Ex: Human Revolution will serve as the primary template for the film.
Executive Vice President of Production Maria Faillace and Creative Executive Alex Ginno are overseeing the project for CBS Films.
Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill are represented by WME and managed by Brillstein Entertainment Partners. Their legal is handled by Jackoway, Tyerman, Wertheimer, Austen, Mandelbaum, Morris & Klein.

I dunno maybe this is one that could actually work... I bet it won't though just from all other video game movies.
Played by Brad Pitt, and it's about how Adam Jensen, a UN worker, has to work to save the world from the cyborgs
What does Source have to do with Deus Ex? Anyway I hope it will try to follow the original story a bit instead of just taking a completely different path as the Max Payne movie did.
the perfect deus ex movie would be this in full length

I wouldnt get my hopes up, every movie that was based around a game has so far has been shit.
I'm imagining

with a less 1984-ish setting and more cool cybernetics.
Honestly, as terrible as videogame movies tend to be, this could actually have potential.

I don't know, Silent Hill came pretty close if you ignored the dumb characters and the changes they made. I mean, sure it had nothing to do with the games plot-wise, but in terms of atmosphere and design it came quite close to replicating the games.
This could be great. The world and characters in this are brilliant, and it could easily become a good movie. They just have to not fuck it up. This choice of director is making me lean slightly positive. Only slightly, though, given the average quality of game adaptations.
Hell yeah! Human Revolution is one of my favourite games! They should just make the flick about someone else if Toufexis isn't Jensen. Not the same without that sexy voice of is in my opinion.
I jsut hope they really stick to the great characters, back story and general world instead of focusing on action.

let's not forget the art style and visual design either
I hope the energy bars make a cameo

Totally, the game was pretty much perfect IMO (except the shitty faux-choice ending)... I'd be quite happy for an almost exact game>screen copy to be honest.
Ehh, I don't really have big hopes for this with that director.
I'd rather see a Shadowrun movie. The world of Deus Ex has nothing on the Shadowrun universe. :v:
Adam Jensen is played by LL Cool J
DEHR has a movie's storyline, this could work.
Elias Toufexis should play Adam. Not only is he the voice actor, but he is a tv/movie actor who would actually look like Adam Jensen.
I'd rather see another stealth game as good and interesting as DXHR.
Personally I didn't like the original Deus Ex, I find old PC games too unforgiving (go on hate on me) and bland. Though I'm sure that had a great storyline, I never finished it.
Only way this could work is that if it would be similar CGI that the trailers were.
Oh wow 2 movies in 1 day
They also announced the Assassins Creed movie next year (Officially this time)

Well, the trailer's a bit too heavy to work out feature-length.
Deus Ex proper is every bit as good as HR- coming from someone who didn't play DE1 until 08 or 09
Didn't mean to say it's a bad game, just not for me.
DXHR does some things differently and is more accessible.

Do it, Can't see anyone else as Adam. NOONE ELSE.
This could work very well. Chances are it won't, however...
The games are a better medium with which to tell the story, fuck this shit.

I feel like something similar was done recently...
