How would I go about selling high tech lab equiptment?

I didn't really know where to put this thread so mods please move if it's in the wrong place.
So recently I came into a used eppendorf centrifuge 5804 centrifuge. Thing is I'm a mechanical engineering student and thus has no idea what to do with it and it's big and heavy. I thought I'd ask you guys as I have no plans for it and my room-mates wanted to mix drinks in it (i stopped them thank god) so it's sitting on my floor. So I figured I'd sell it (new it goes from 4-7 thousand), and my question is where would I go to sell it? I mean ebay seems to have some centrifuges on it but I don't know if labs really go there for this kind of stuff. . . Anyway I'f I can't sell it I can give it away I guess. Thanks!
Here is a pic (not mine as it is 3am here):

Make Zombie Cancer.
No seriously, probably sell it on eBay or something.
Ebay. Yes I read the OP
e-mail school districts offering it with images. use a professional email(your .edu one would be great), include pictures. schools do not receive immense amounts for science funding, and many would willingly accept used equipment at discounted prices(new is $4k? you're going to get $1k max).
of course if ebay doesn't work out
i will take it off of your hands for a pack of gum
it's not worth much more

How is that not a good idea?

LabX is a classifieds site for new and used lab equipment. If you live in the Massachusetts (US North-East) area, I could take it off your hands. (Couldn't honestly pay much if at all, though)
Why would you want to sell it? Centrifuge shit.
How is that not a good idea?
It's a fucking centrifuge. It's designed to pull things out of solution, not put them in it. It would, however, be useful to make a cocktail where you have multiple layers.

Honestly, centrifuging stuff you find gets pretty boring after the first few things.
How the hell did you get a Centrifuge?
Man I wish I could get an optical microscope...
[sp]Your avatar brings back fucking shitty memories[/sp]

You're just not imaginative enough.
You're just not imaginative enough.
Beyond various beverages and such, what would I want to centrifuge that would be very interesting outside of a laboratory procedure? (Centrifuging these still is usually one of the more boring steps, though)
I'm not really concerned about money (it'll take some cash to transport though), I'd really have no quarrel with just giving it away at this point, just want to make sure it ends up being useful. Or I could start a science project. Anyway I'm in Rochester, NY if that helps. It goes up to 14000 rpm so it's a serious piece of equipment. I think I'll just call some local labs and see if they want it..

I go to RIT and tuition is $42,450 per year (scholarships are a godsend) so they can get the latest and greatest so the electronics turnover is immense. So we (the students) prowl the recycling piles for spare parts and free stuff which is where I got the centrifuge. It's not broken and I'm sure the labs are probably running some new space-age-centrifuge or something but I digress. So the school won't be interested but the local labs are a possible (I'd donate it if it's local and they can do pickup).

While I don't agree with your it's not worth much more (it is), If you got the gum I got the centrifuge.

I feel like if I let them do that it end up looking, smelling and being as sticky as a freshman's vomit on a Saturday.
Try asking local secondary schools and maybe a vets?
Vets may sound stupid, but they use it whilst analysing blood, especially things like red blood cell percentage.

Hmmmm I like animals so I might get on that tomorrow
Turn Kool-aid back into powder and water.
Mix drinks with it, duh.
Sell it to China.
Can i have it? I'll pay shipping and give you some beer tokens

I personally don't drink but if you've got some Jell-o cups laying around.

HOLY SHIT! I am SO fucking glad I don't live in America. I pay literally ONE TENTH of what you pay per year for uni.

They wanted to use it to mix drinks? What kind of idiots do you live with? This thing would SEPARATE DRINKS.
My father uses this type of equipment (histopathologist) and he loves going on eBay for this stuff.
That's really my only input, I hope it helps.
Assuming it works, your best bet would be to try to sell it or donate it to a small lab. Chances are selling to an individual would be hard (if you are looking for getting any money out of it).
Reason being, is that most people that need them, work in a lab that has one. The person in charge of equipment for the lab would be the one responsible for having these machines. I use these all the time, and for how cool it would be to actually have one, I couldn't justify giving you a respectable amount of money for it.
Especially since, all the things I would use it for need to be done in a lab, in a hood, with a load of other conditions and materials.
Can I have it?

:what:
Take it apart and sell the parts individually like they did on Top Gear
Very similar to this - only they did it with a car
