you have to hold down the buttons, it's not instant.

If you hold R3 and L3 your character self-destructs. If you revive yourself with an item rather than respawning as a new robot the battle damage isn't repaired. For some reason the battle damage destroys her dress/skirt.

Apparently there is an item that revives you from death, hence why self-destruct didn't have its intended outcome

I'm blind apparently. I was looking for something more noticeable, along the lines of that thicc comic that got posted. I literally thought she was going to inflate before she exploded or something.
