More than 100 McDonald's workers were arrested after staging a sit-in and blocking the entrance to the company's headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois, a day before the McDonald's annual shareholders meeting, according to labor activists.
The move comes days after unions worldwide joined forces to ask for better pay and working conditions at the fast-food chain.
Kendall Fells, leader of Fast Food Forward, said the action would force executives to “look their employees in the eye,” while workers could “tell them in their faces that they’re sick and tired of living in poverty.” This time, Fells said, the workers were prepared to stay put “until they are heard.
Protests are supposed to be legal.
protests are supposed to be convenient?
There is a difference between protesting on public property and private. I really don't think I need to explain this.

They don't actually want 15/h minimum wage. They're just smart enough to know how to negotiate. You always start negotiations with something high, that way when you do go down you seem more reasonable.
Protests are supposed to be legal.
i could point a bunch of protests which were considered to be illegal by its respective governments across the planet you know, would you agree with... say the russian crackdown on gay protests on russia? :v:

not really, protests aren't supposed to be convenient, otherwise you're killing the point of it lol.
yeah, a protest that doesn't disrupt anything isn't really doing much beyond preaching to the choir
I hope we get a system like denmarks. From what I've read, each type of worker has a union that bargains a deal for all of them, and the average pay negotiated was 110 krone per hour ($20) and their burgers are only about 10% more expensive. I would pay 10% more to let these people have a living wage, and guess what then they might be able to spend money on things too instead of working to survive

No, they are to raise awareness in a positive and opportune manner. Using someone's private property as a stomping ground is not how you go about it, I don't care who you are.

Again minimum wage boosting to 15+ dollars overnight is going to do very bad things to the economy of the US, not so much the Cities and large Suburbs that support cities, but the small, gas station, POP of 1k towns, which are abundant in the US. Small businesses would not be able to compete.

and the burgers being 10% more will discourage me from buying them all the time, thereby helping me lose weight
$15/hr please

you're thinking of a rally

and if that doesn't work? they pack their stuff and go home? because "private property"? you seldom manage to raise awareness by being convenient.
from my understanding they have been fighting for higher wages for a very long time.

Railly's are to build support for an idea, protests are to show it.
There is a difference between protesting on public property and private. I really don't think I need to explain this.
Well the difference is that protesting out in the woods in a state park attracts significantly less attention than protesting in front of a corporate headquarters.

I didn't say anything about being convenient, just respectfulness of the law and others, but you can protest in ways that don't damage others. If you do, it only hurts your own credibility.

I was wondering how long till the strawman argument showed up.

you didn't said, but that is exactly what it is, they're being inconvenient, just because the law says something, doesn't mean its right, otherwise you must be fine with governments across the planet cracking down on protesters, regardless of cause, "because its the law".
and it only hurts the credibility because of people like you, who care more for a thing like a property, than the well-being of other people who work their ass off but barely have enough money to survive.
McDonald’s employee Adriana Alvarez, 21, said she joined Wednesday’s action to show that "it’s really hard to live off her wages as a single mother."
Alvarez said, "We’re tired of it. We’re at a tipping point. We’re done.”
Studies show that more than two-thirds of low-income workers are women.
but fuck them i guess, they broke the law.

Please only protest McDonalds a respectful, lawful way. Pls don't bring up the Hamburglars criminal record. Pls don't make fun of Grimace's weight, he's very sensitive. The proper way to bring about desperately needed social change is to be polite and quiet and to only speak when spoken to.

Areas that have boosted the minimum raise have shown little to no effect on small business.

You still have to pay to be in a union, and it's not all jobs that have one iirc.

We do this here as well. My immediate superior notified the team a few weeks ago that the union and the HR dept of the company were beginning their annual negotiations for our enterprise bargaining agreement. Any change affects non-union employees as well.
In my opinion the minimum wage shouldn't ever go over $10/hr, I think it should be just enough for you to get by. If its high enough where you're able to live comfortable off it where the motivation to get a better job come from?
as long as they aren't beating up people, smashing things, threatening violence or killing anyone then there shouldn't really be a problem with protesting
You guys should check out the Big Mac Index:

Luxury? I mean I agree with you that there should be an incentive to do more, but why can't that incentive be positive(luxury goods like phones and games and vacations and collections etc) rather than negative(starving/freezing to death)
I think positive incentives work better than negative ones. The guy who has all the basics taken care of is going to be happier, and more productive in all aspects of life.

Not working at McDonalds
I can't believe there are people in here that think it should be OK to go on private property in large groups and block people from being able to enter buildings
There have been legitimate protests unfairly treated as illegal but this is not one of them.
