Local officers had produced an internal “important event” memo entitled “rape, sexual harassment, thefts, committed by a large group of foreign people” – the first indication of the scale of the incident which would go on to make headlines around the world. According to Cologne newspaper Express, officers received a phone call from the state police control centre ordering them to take down the report “or otherwise delete the phrase ‘Vergewaltigung’” – “rape”. A senior Cologne police officer told Express he was informed of the order by a colleague who took the call, and that state police understood it to be “the wish of the state interior ministry”.

Police ultimately refused the request, leaving the word “rape” in their report, and the news would eventually reach the wider world.

The interior minister was due to address an interior policy committee meeting on Thursday, and his spokesman said he would answer questions on the new reports then. He denied a cover-up, but confirmed “professional discussions” had taken place between state controllers and Cologne police over the “classification” of the New Year’s Eve assaults.
Covering up at its finest. Fucking disgusting.
Fucking atrocious. I don't know what to say about this other than it's bullshit. The accusation that the German Government cares more about PR and Refugees more than Citizens is starting to look more and more realistic.
This is disgusting. Immigrants are not babies. Why are we treating them as such?
Its almost like they want to give AfD and PEGDIA legitimacy or something.
Its almost like they want to give AfD and PEGDIA legitimacy or something.
They want to do the opposite. They want to dance around the issue and soften the blow so that people don't get angry and protest. It just backfires on them.
Police got a phone call from state police. State police says NRW-minister said so, please remove one word. Police says no, word stays. Cover-up, holy shit, censor, press freedom in Germany lost, what is going on, Europa lost.
State Police controller tells the local Police to remove pretty serious information regarding an active situation for no reason. Are you seriously trying to claim that that isn't an attempt at covering up information?
did they replace the word with "Forced bodily fluid transactions"
No, it is shitty, but nothing happened at the end. People shouldn't blow stuff out of proportions.
Consider the possible outcome of if the Police said yes to their request. It's not blowing stuff out of proportion, it is a serious issue that requires scrutiny.
No, it is shitty, but nothing happened at the end. People shouldn't blow stuff out of proportions.
Bullshit, the fact that the state police told them to remove "rape" from the reports is a serious thing, you shouldn't remove X just because it's done by Y. It's like "misplacing" evidence more or less
If the police complied, all that would be lacking is one word. We even don't know why they wanted to remove that word. Sure, it was probably an attempt to a mild cover-up, but it may as well be out of another reason.
Is this a serious argument right here? It's just one word in an internal memo? Yes it's pretty clear you don't understand the outrage considering the arguments that you are pressenting.
Makes you wonder how often local departments comply with similar requests with no one the wiser.
You guys don't know what a cover up is. A cover up would be unreported and not prosecuted. Köln sex attacks are both prosecuted, and reported. Widely reported in that, wide and far. I don't know what this is, I am not here to speculate, but this is not a cover up.
What part of attempted coverup do you not understand? How the fuck would we know if this was covered up? Part of the reason why this is such a big issue is the fact that it brings into question if this has been attempted before. Why are you bending over backwards to defend something which is clearly wrong? Furthermore you have already admitted and agreed that this was an attempted coverup, unless there has been some miscommunication in your previous posts.
Are you seriously trying to claim that that isn't an attempt at covering up information?

No, it is shitty, but nothing happened at the end.

Is it a coverup? Nope. Blown out of proportion.
It was a blatant attempt at a cover up, why does putting "attempted" in front of it make it any better?
If the police complied, all that would be lacking is one word. We even don't know why they wanted to remove that word. Sure, it was probably an attempt to a mild cover-up, but it may as well be out of another reason.
"The word rape and all that comes with it ain't such a big deal, guys."
This is disgusting. Immigrants are not babies. Why are we treating them as such?
Because unlike the native population, they're actually having babies? It's always a good idea to protect your future constituents and low-wage workers.
Before anyone says it, it's more likely that this was the German government trying to hide it's ass then the boogeyman that is Political Correctness.

So they would even report the crimes you think would go unreported, just in a "politically correct" manner. Now, how you feel about this is irrelevant, what I say is this is not a coverup, and never was. Is it bad? Disgusting? A showcase of incompetence? Should the Interior Minister be sacked? Ye ye ye ye. Is it a coverup? Nope. Blown out of proportion.
You're right, we should stop giving a shit about this because it's not a cover up, just an attempt to cover up. I consider this to be a big deal, because the government, or atleast that Interior Minister tried to exert his power to essentially manipulate the report even if it's just one word.
This was ordered by the local interior minister, who in return got told to get his shit straight by our federal interior minister. This news is blown out of proportion, as this isn't the state as a whole trying to cover up a report.
They do this for a good year now. They avoid reports with the word "rape" in it and replace it with "abuse"
They do this for a good year now. They avoid reports with the word "rape" in it and replace it with "abuse"
Oh, so it's just their regular censorship. Still shit, but not nearly as shit as it seems.

isn't this whole Cologne going to cost the Germans PM her job I herd people are getting sick oh her could be wrong though
Before anyone says it, it's more likely that this was the German government trying to hide it's ass then the boogeyman that is Political Correctness.
No one was going to say that
Germans are weaklings it seems. But I think someday Germany will fucking explode with rage and frustration.
