any spoilers in it?
They warn you.
i think this is the first time they liked something I didn't, the NX Franklin [sp]riding on a wave of flame just didn't work for me[/sp] and regarding the video, [sp]that last 14 minutes...[/sp]
Hey, I liked it. As a blockbuster rebooted IP, I think this movie stands above most other pg-13 movies coming out today. It was a quality movie.
Star Trek Beyond actually felt like a Star Trek movie and I would count it in my top five favorite Trek movies, I agree with Mike that this movie has finally given me hope for the future of Star Trek. Though I'll admit as soon as I knew that Simon Pegg was co-writing it, as he is a MASSIVE trekky and absolutely adores the original series, I knew he wouldn't let us fans down, but that's what happens when you actually put someone who cares about the franchise in the writing position, they should do that more often in Hollywood.
I thought it was cute how sentimental Mike was getting for Star Trek.
I'm so glad Mike said that there was no dog. I might go see it now.

Strangely enough one of the few complaints I had was [sp]during the opening montage around Yorktown showing off all the advanced technology and such. For some reason the camera work and general presentation felt like a bad 60s ad or something. "Come see the world of tomorrow!" kind of thing. It ended up just feeling a little tacky.[/sp]
I knew Mike would like it before it was over. It's just a fun sci-fi movie with cool scenes, genuine dialogue, and a plot that is engaging and logical.
I figured Mike would be a lot more nitpicky, but hey, it's nice to see him gush over things.
Especially considering how before it came out, there was an article were Pegg expressed worry because there was meddling in the script department where I guess he had to fight tooth and nail on things and he really didn't want to fuck it all up. Knowing that, he did a pretty damn good job imo

I think without that scene at the beginning it would have been much more confusing.[/sp]
I liked this movie because [sp]the Beastie Boys save the galaxy.[/sp]

Do I have to watch the other ones to understand this one?
Do I have to watch the other ones to understand this one?
the movies or the half in the bags if you want to understand the deep intertwined plot of hitb you really gotta start from ep 1
Do I have to watch the other ones to understand this one?
No, Beyond is a very self contained movie and like they said in the video, they did their best to mostly push the older movies to the side to do their own thing. As a huge trek fan I have to agree with them, this was the most trek out of the new movies and probably the best out of them too.
Cool then. Might skip the JJ ones and watch this one.
Well, you might have to watch the first movie to understand how the universe came about, but you can totally skip into darkness.
I just watched Beyond earlier, it's genuinely what Into Darkness should have been, even to the point where they kind tread similar ground and setpieces, but unlike ID, it doesn't fall apart.
Holy shit I have that interactive TNG VHS board game
Honestly, I thought this was the weakest of the new movies personally. Like it wasn't bad but it just didn't click with me in places. Like that [sp]photo of the original cast which, imo, was just pure fan pandering. That photo should have just been a pic of TOS era Spock because in this alternate timeline they mean close to nothing.[/sp] Then there was the [sp]twist with the bad guy being human all along which was just weak as hell[/sp]. That along with some plot holes which even my mum noticed like [sp]during the bad guys captains logs he mentions that he is the only one left and yet somehow he has an army at his command?? Are we supposed to believe that those other people are people he captured? They never say so. Then there is the whole him tuning into an alien which is never explained beyond "this alien mining equipment I found can extend life" and it never explains how he just magically turns back into a human at the end so he can CONVENIENTLY blend in with the crowd only to be discovered like 5 minutes later.[/sp]
^i agree that it was the weakest of the new bunch, but everything else you posted was wrong. [sp]the tos cast photo was there to show what nu-spock could achieve by staying with starfleet and the enterprise, since he had those thoughts of leaving to take spock prime's place on new vulcan. if anything, all the references were fan pandering. edison stated in his video that it was him and two others left in the original crew, and that they had found the drone workers in hibernation, and using the tech to prolong their lives is what changed their physiology, my guess is that he had to do it frequently or it would have turned him back into a human and he would then be more prone to death, simple as that.[/sp]
Do I have to watch the other ones to understand this one?
No, it barely talks about their backstories but it does spoil a bigass surprise for fanboys in the first movie. I watched it last night, it was better than the first 2 movies and I loved it. I want to see it again. The beastie boys scene starts off awful and it made me roll my eyes but then it got amazing after about 5 seconds and is one of the best parts of the film [editline]29th July 2016[/editline] I would like to know how Krall got that super advanced tech and army.
