Running Photoshop CS2 on a really old PC, any way to improve performance?

So as part of my workplace internship school course, I create banners, posters and stuff for the schools in my school board. It's a nice job and all, but the computer I use (and is the only one I'm allowed to use, I can't use my laptop) runs photoshop terribly, like a snail moving across treacle. It takes up to 5 minutes just to save something. The computer has a gig of ram and has a mobo-intergrated graphics card. Is there any kind of non-hardware performance boost method?
Also, I wasn't sure where to post this exactly, I posted it here because it's related to photoshop.
Free up your RAM as much as possible.
As failboat said, close useless programs. I can use CS4 on a 1.6 Sempron with no issues, 1gb of RAM.
turn the theme to windows basic
Vomit all you're specs all over the place, and your PC model. Use Speccy by I think Piriform to find your specs. Also what OS do you have?
