The 25th annual Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando kicked off this evening with a bang! During the question and answer session, film director/producer John Landis (An American Werewolf in London), revealed to the audience some unexpected and major news regarding Star Wars of all things. Empire is reporting: "At a Q&A tonight John Landis dropped that Disney are finally going to re-release the theatrical cuts of the original Star Wars trilogy." Landis then added, the information was provided to him by his oldpal George Lucas. As if the rocky veil was digitally lifted....
And people were scared of Disney buying the property...
Disney continues to prove they are good people except for their legal department
All is forgiven
Disney continues to prove they are good people except for their legal department
You do NOT fuck with the house of mouse. Fucking awesome to hear though.
Don't theatrical versions exist on vhs though or am I mistaken?
Can we have a theatrical version with the minor changes? Like the space battles and brightly coloured lightsabers and the colour correction. And the Bespin improvements? But leave the OTT Mos Eisley and Vader changes behind.
Don't theatrical versions exist on vhs though or am I mistaken?
the original VHS release, the 1993 laserdisc trilogy release, and the 2004 low-key dvd release based on the laserdisc transfer

I think if you leave some "improvements" and remove the others there will always be someone complaining "why not this, why not that".
Disney continues to prove they are good people except for their legal department
i don't think making a blatantly obvious good business move qualifies them as good people. they know it'll make money.
i don't think making a blatantly obvious good business move qualifies them as good people. they know it'll make money.
They are a business, but they're a business run by decent people. Bob Iger's a great philanthropist, and a brilliant guy all-round. And, unlike certain other companies in the media right now, not a complete moron.
i don't think making a blatantly obvious good business move qualifies them as good people. they know it'll make money.
They know how to make money because they know how to please people the JJ Abrams decision certainly was a surprisingly smart move. Star Wars 7 is looking like a proper fan made full budget film.
Don't theatrical versions exist on vhs though or am I mistaken?
There was a limited edition DVD release too.
i don't think making a blatantly obvious good business move qualifies them as good people. they know it'll make money.
but it does show that they're the right people to handle this IP
Good, I've watched the shitload of the remastered ones when I was a kid, only way I'd go through the series again is if I can see the originals.
Bluray?
Bluray?
obviously
This is going to be some great material for the despecialized editions then.
This is going to be some great material for the despecialized editions then.
more like the despecialized edition is useless now
Hopefully it'll be released before the new film so I can rewatch all three originals the week before the new one comes out.
Disney continues to prove they are good people except for their legal department
RIP Yuuzhan Vong Your cheesiness will never be forgotten.
We can finally end the argument of if Han shot first or not!
more like the despecialized edition is useless now
Not necessarily. Depending on which scan they're using, or if they're using a new scan, there could be color correction issues like we've seen in the 2004 rerelease and the 2011 Blu-Ray collection. It amazes me that after almost 40 years, they still haven't been able to release a perfectly unaltered version of the theatrical film.

But leave the OTT Mos Eisley and Vader changes behind.
Nope, I think it should be the actual original, because physically you can't get that version. [editline]19th September 2015[/editline]
Bluray?
Wonder how a 4k scan would perform
So what does that mean for the Despecialized project
So what does that mean for the Despecialized project
Depends on the color correction in the release.
Depends on the color correction in the release.
If the Despecialized Edition ends up being a simple color correction, I'd be OK with that.
wasn't the original star wars only saved in editing and have a fuck load of un-needed shit?
If the Despecialized Edition ends up being a simple color correction, I'd be OK with that.
They're basically remaking the original releases as close as they were in theatres
