Former 'GTA' Devs To Make A New Game 'Everywhere', Here's What To Expect
The game will be available on consoles and PC, and Benzies' addition that players will "be able to engage with the game through other means, too" hints at mobile. Virtual reality is likely to be a heavy component, with the interactive aspect of the game. They even have a 10 year plan for Everywhere, though they recognize that things often change.
This seems obscenely ambitious.

gta 3 was p ambitious for its time too
beinz is one of the main dudes behind that game.
wasn't there another video game project by former Rockstar employees? It was about the cold war maybe?? The title was a year like 1947 or something
I think we should all be extremely skeptical of any game where they don't explicitly say what you actually DO in it. If a dev can't specifically describe what interactions are in the game, it's probably they didn't put any in that are worth advertising.

You might be thinking of Agent which is a Rockstar Games project. That's the only Cold War related thing I can think of that involves anybody from Rockstar. I don't think we've received any news of it in a long time though.

This.
Agent has basically been MIA since it was announced in 2007. They've been renewing the trademark for it, but one of the guys who worked on art for it said he was "not sure if this project will ever be published". Considering it's been a decade since it was announced-- originally as a PS3 exclusive-- and nothing has come of it, who knows? They felt the need to renew the trademark though, but that's such a ridiculously long time for nothing to happen with a game.
Impulse mentioned the name "1947" though. Something that came to my mind was this guy who used to work for Rockstar from 2000 to 2006 who went off on his own and who was developing a game called 1979 about the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Apparently, it was released last year. I remember hearing about that project years ago. The guy who came up with it is actually an Iranian.
I was hopeful from the title that we were going to get more Anywhere City from GTA 2 AKA GTA: Pre-War Fallout, but no it's just a shitty NMS-esque pipe dream.
Oh yeah cause all those hundreds of past "it's a game where you can do anything!" projects all totally worked out.
To be fair, Benzies is a decent guy who thanks to the media got a lot of hate, and no matter what anyone says, Rockstar fucked him over plain and simple. Despite Benzies being one of the grandfathers of what GTA today is, his views on the company policies (including their holiday terms and general working hours) is what ultimately got him outcast - just like with Red Dead Redemption's development, employees spoke out about horrible practices after being laid off, and because it's Rockstar - they don't get investigated.
Hopefully he's not all talk, because a competitor that actually can stand against GTA Online would be a real sight to see. All we've had so far are akin to dipping toes into the otherwise massive cesspool of craziness that is GTA - and that's what makes the series fun, but competition would be great to grow the franchise, and to provide alternatives because GTA Online does get repetitive quite quickly and I would say that the gunplay is quite stale compared to how it felt in the beginning.
WE NEED THE BENZ

Maybe they haven't because if they did the game might be too easy to pin down, thus losing its shock value and speculation?
gta 3 was p ambitious for its time too

i don't think GTA III was as ambitious for its time as this is for today, but then again these details are pretty vague
it's gonna flop

That's fine and all, but remember No Mans Sky?
Yea fuck it, I'd rather just know what the game is actually about.

According to Benzies.

This is true, but games are a lot more expensive to make now and are way more complex and detailed, so it's not quite the same. Hopefully this works out for em, but I guess time will tell (assuming it gets released).

But AAA game development costs have grown exponentially compared to when GTA III was released.
it's gonna flop
I'll still buy it.
According to Benzies.
I'd rather believe him than the proven liars that Rockstar are. They have lied about former employees in the past, they aren't about to stop.
