Alleged U.S.-Russia Olympic vote-swapping deal would keep Canada from gold
French magazine L'Equipe alleges the U.S. and Russia have struck a deal to help each other out at Sochi Winter Olympic figure skating events, which would keep Canada's Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir from the gold.
The magazine quotes a Russian coach, who spoke to the magazine on the condition of anonymity about the "proposed barter" between the two countries.
According to the magazine, the anonymous official said the U.S. has agreed to help Russia win the pairs figure skating and team events.
In exchange, Russia would purportedly ensure Meryl Davis and Charlie White of the U.S. win gold over Canadian champions Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir.
Thing is, if the US team goes and does an amazing performance that completely blows the Canadian team out of the water, they'd just say they didn't deserve it and cheated for votes.
Who cares, hockey is the only sport in the winter Olympics that the average Canadian actually gives a shit about.

There are other cool things like Biathlon.

Regardless of preferences, I'm glad that two of the largest nations with some of the most corrupt world views on Earth have finally come together to do some good old fashioned Olympic size vote rigging.
This seems about as normal for the Sochi games as ale-coloured water.
That's a VERY serious accusation holy shit

It's gold-coloured. To get people into the Olympic spirit.
Doesn't surprise me at all, I was assuming I would hear about this at some point, the only surprising thing is how early int he games it happened. (I'm not watching the games for personal reasons.)
Russia is leading in team figure skating, this shit is so rigged.
Of course they have to pick on us Canadians. We're just trying to have a nice time up there dontcha know. What a bunch of hosers. :(
Olympics should be about the athletes performance and skill not letting some old sweaty dudes decide who wins..
This seems too petty and insignificant for two large countries like the U.S and Russia to bother with or risk getting caught for that matter.
I think it more likley that a magazine would make up this story to generate controversey and get more sales and attention.
So rigged that they're preventing Australia from winning anything

We didn't train in the desert for nothing, assholes

Sandboarding should be an Olympic sport.
Waterboarding wouldn't be fair, though. America's got that shit down packed.
There are other cool things like Biathlon.
cross country skiing and shooting things
To be honest, I thought this would've been about the snowboarding event. A lot of talk is going on about how it's BS the American got gold - granted, I've stayed out of it because I haven't seen the American guys run yet.

Somehow I read the title and expected a story about corruption in the Olympic venue selection committee involving gold mining rights.
But, whatever, the Olympics don't inspire anything in me anymore. It's such a shitstorm of sponsorships and commercialism and corporate involvement that it might as well be the NFL.
