So, since I wasn't good enough to get into university jazz-studies, I decided to dedicate a year to studying jazz-drumming and drummers. I have recorded drums to 4 different jazz-playalongs, and I'm going to record the same tunes in about a year or so, to see if I've had any progress. Hope ya like, if not, wait 1 year and I'll hopefully record something better :v:
Here's the playlist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbbBhTLs2yA&feature=c4-overview-vl&list=PLQPMUUQ2Dtwb8s5nQQY1RoT508U1hDFfb

thanks man. it's harsh. one error and you're pretty much screwed and some 17 year old wünderkid comes along and stuns the teachers.
Woah, you mean you're not only a meathead bruv. Good stuff, all I do is play guitar mediocrely.

Lol shit, fired up your playlist thingy then started playing a game and I just totally forgot about it so you've been playing in the background for the past 20 minutes, just drumming it out and me being immersed.

they're purist "to the book" types who accept accuracy over reality.
Tbh, I'm gonna subscribe because you do put a heart in what you do and that counts most. :-)
Yeah, a friend of mine got in, and he had no idea why. You just have to have "your day" and be a bit lucky with the teachers watching the audition. Play a lot in live settings, so you don't get nervous. Also, the band you play with also matters.
At this one school, I couldn't get any eye-contact with any of the musicians, because they had their noses buried in the note sheets.
I have played with some of the people in the jazz studies, and they aren't as proficient as you would think they were. Most of them are a bit snob'ish and conservative.
Oh cool I didn't know you were on facepunch. Subscribed to your channel a while ago. I kind of suck at jazz drumming so it'll be cool to see how you progress!
I'd love to know what kind of excercises you do, the only real excercise is paradiddles, beyond that I'm 100% self taught and I feel that in order to truly be able to explore my limits I could do with some good drum excercises.

I recommend either going to a good drum teacher, or buying some drum books. I recommend the new breed books(1 and 2) for independence and technique. And Syncopation for the modern drummer by Jim Reed.
There's only one drum teacher where I currently reside and he's pretty expensive, there's a few percussionist teachers though, maybe I could become a student under one of them and try and apply the lessons they teach me onto drums? I'll check out those books, thanks for the quick response! :)

Also, what kind of crash is that? It sounds beautiful :)
Zildjian A costum 18 inch
I definietly have to find one of those then, just had that perfect crisp sound :)
What kit are you playing? I got a Pearl Forum kit that I got on a sale on the local music store, it got some really nice toms and snare and kick but the ride and crash just sounds godawful, which I suppose is standard when you get a drumkit for €800 (it was on sale as I mentioned so it only costed me €600)

The kit I'm playing here is a part of the studio I'm playing in, but it's an older tama imperialstar and a dunnett aluminum snare.
