(Reuters) - Islamic State militants are changing tactics in the face of U.S. air strikes in northern Iraq, ditching conspicuous convoys in favor of motorcycles and planting their black flags on civilian homes, tribal sources and eyewitnesses say. They reported fewer militant checkpoints to weed out "apostates" and less cell phone use since the air strikes intensified and more U.S. allies pledged to join the campaign that began in August, saying the militants had also split up to limit casualties. A tribal sheikh from a village south of Kirkuk said Islamic State elements "abandoned one of their biggest headquarters in the village" when they heard the air strike campaign was likely to target their area. "They took all their furniture, vehicles and weapons. Then they planted roadside bombs and destroyed the headquarters," said the tribal sheikh who declined to be named. "They don't move in military convoys like before. Instead they use motorcycles, bicycles, and if necessary, they use camouflaged cars," he said.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/09/26/us-mideast-crisis-iraq-tactics-idUSKCN0HL1N020140926
"They don't move in military convoys like before. Instead they use motorcycles, bicycles, and if necessary, they use camouflaged cars," he said.
I guess this means they can't move round heavier weapons or armoured vehicles so easily.
At least it means a less likely chance to involve US ground troops.
so what was that about allah protecting you from the infidels?
Semi-Suicide Bombers.
so what was that about allah protecting you from the infidels?
Hey ISIS, need some ointment for that burn?
At least it means a less likely chance to involve US ground troops.
I think you mean more likely. Bomb them all you like, they'll just hide and come out later.
That article played out with a propaganda vibe.
What... the fuck... Why join an Islamic terrorist group (Of course, those who were willing) which is based around strapping bombs to your chest and creating a bloody mess out of yourself and people around you to convey your point when you actually don't want to do that? and this is meant to be a standard "practice"?

So far its been based around beating up rebel groups to steal their money/guns/people and mass executions.
no god can save you now
I think it's inevitable that they'll be forever trapped as insurgents the moment they try to coalesce as a conventional army the western world is able to marginalize them (obliterate them) back to IEDs and suicide vests
Yeah the US is probably the strongest conventional military force on Earth, there's no way in fucking hell that ISIL can stand as an actual army, they'll have their arsehole hammered the second they try.
so what was that about allah protecting you from the infidels?
be glad you have jesus protecting you from them.
No surprises here, the more conspicuous you are the easier it is for a conventional military force to seek you out and flatten you. But this said, we'll never be completely rid of terrorism; even if this group is completely exterminated root and branch, after a while we'll see some other nuts taking up the cause.
Can't imagine camouflaged cars doing them much good against infrared cameras.
Everyone wants to be a terrorist until they have to face the consequences.
At least it means a less likely chance to involve US ground troops.
Gonna disagree here. When they start becoming hard to spot and start hiding in civilian cover then airstrikes and drones become less useful, meaning troops are more efficient when you want to limit civilian casualties.
crocodile tears
not the best response I could come up with but it gets the job done imo

This looks really bad for them though because a huge part of their image was look at us we're not scared of anyone we can do what we want. They looked like an actual military force, not a militant group that had to hide all the time.
I think 'are too scared to die' is wierd, because we all know that ISIS is no ordinary terrorist organization- they are intelligent and based, which is what makes them dangerous, treating them like suicidal bomb monkeys will never help to bring them to extinction
"They were executing people like drinking water ... Now the air strikes are very active and have decreased the (militants') ability,"
I was hoping Drinking Water was going to make it, but looks like they got him. :(
Its not a terrorist group for fucks sakeeeeee
I am without words. All I can say is are you fucking kidding me?
Its not a terrorist group for fucks sakeeeeee

1. terrorist organization - a political movement that uses terror as a weapon to achieve its goals foreign terrorist organization, FTO, terrorist group act of terrorism, terrorism, terrorist act - the calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear political movement - a group of people working together to achieve a political goal
I think by this definition they are a terrorist group.
Glad they'll eventually be wiped out... though sadly, others will take their place. As always. God damnit.
The titles pretty dumb like of course they are going to change their tactics so less of them die? do you expect them to say "fuck it we will just go out in the open and get bombed to pieces" they aren't stupid. There is not being afraid to die then there is actually being smart about it come on.
I think you mean more likely. Bomb them all you like, they'll just hide and come out later.
Fuck them, really.
They act like "come at me bro" tough guys until they see the barrel of a gun pointed at them?
